Is the price difference between these two diamonds due to the fact that one has a clarity of VS2 and the other VVS2?

sure, can definitely be the case. the higher the clarity grade, the more the rarity... it''s also possible that the cutter made an attempt to dodge some inclusions in the rough, which would result in more rough being cut away, again increasing the price.

if you think that''s drastic... take a look at this 1ct D IF!

There''s a big difference between a VVS2 and a VS2 hence the large price difference.

Some people will pay it because a high clarity is important to them, nothing wrong with that. Different people have different priorities.

In some colours (like in this case F), a small difference in clarity makes an enormous difference in price. As is the case here.

Where many PS-ers will find such a price-difference ludicrous or at least the better clarity not worth the extra dollars, it is clear that other markets (in the US or elsewhere on this globe) have other priorities.

Cut-quality has little effect on this, since the final size, colour and clarity are already integrated into the price of the rough diamonds. There is little a cutter can do about this price-difference.

This all results into something I often mention when meeting consumers: 80% or more of the price of a diamond is defined by the C''s of rarity, being carat weight, colour and clarity, while 20% or less is defined by the C of quality, Cut-quality. On the other hand, 80% or more of the beauty of a diamond actually is defined by that C of Cut-quality, while the C''s of rarity have much less effect.
