Hi! I have a question about the "stamp" inside my ering.

Okay, I have the Mark Morrell Flame ering. It was purchased as a size 5 and after over 4 months, I finally had it resized to a 4.5. I didn''t send it back to Mark to be resized because the cost of insurance to ship it, $80, was the same price to have it resized locally and Mark said it could take up to a couple weeks to get it back and I thought that was kind of a long time to wait.

Long story short, I received my ring yesterday (it fits! yay!) but I noticed today that the stamp from the inside of the ring that said "PT 900 MWM" is missing. I noticed some scuffs from the outside had been polished/buffed out and it was looking bright and shiny again, so I was originally quite happy. But is it weird that they would take out the stamp? Is that hard to do? Or would that normally be removed with a routine polishing? I mean, do people who have their rings engraved (with their wedding date, etc) end up having to have them re-engraved every time the ring is polished?

Any help is appreciated. I thought I''d get some PSer opinions before I get all huffy with this local jeweler. And if anyone remembers, I had a previous thread that the laser inscription from my diamond can''t be found by any local jewelers either. FI said "good grief, first the inscription and now the stamp? It''s like your ring is losing its identity!"

I thought buffing out the stamps was just common practice - when I sent my ring back to WF to be resized the WWW and the 18k stamps had been polished out of the inside.

I''m interested to see the responses to this thread!

i know with cartier , david webb, etc the goal is ALWAYS to prefer the signature and stamps

They could have cut out the stamp resizing, but the diamond inscription would really pi** me off.

It is unlikely the entire stamp could be cut out during resizing.
if the ring was fused (the best way to join platinum) it is easy to remove the stamps.
It is an oversight form the tradesman not to put it back if the work is done in the same shop - but in another shop no one would ever put the stamps back again.
if the stamps are very shallow and were just emeried and polished out then it is hardley the tradesmans fault if they were too shallow in the first place.

Every time I''ve had a ring sized, the stamps went away. Or there was just the faintest impression left, if it''s high up in the shank.

Well, no jewelers could have polished off the diamond inscription besides Mark. The first local jeweler I took it to tried to find the inscription and was unable to, I took it to another and they couldn''t find it either. So either I scrubbed it off myself (I do put it in the UA and the Jewel Jet about once a week) or it vanished some other way. I''ve yet to call Jonathan at GOG regarding the inscription. I should put that on my to-do list!

When GOG resized my WF solitaire, the WF logo and their 18k stamp were taken off.
But GOG did put a generic 18k stamp back inside.
