Is a plain solitaire too plain?

I bought my AVC from the pre-loved listed as a loose stone on loupetroop. It just happened to be in a solitaire that was my size so I paid $100 for the setting. I had never actually thought about having a solitaire. I have really started to like it and the options with stacking bands, but I wonder if it looks too plain. It is a very inexpensive plain solitaire setting not anything fancy like we see here on pricescope. I also kind of wonder with all of the halos and fancy settings if it looks like a cheap ring in comparison. I am probably over thinking it, but that is what I do. It is a .87 K AVC VS1. I am also thinking that if I keep it this way I would like to get a little nicer diamond band to stack with it. I would love some suggestions. I have the BGD huggies and would love some melee diamonds of that quality in a band.

No!!! Your solitaire is not plain. It is elegant and classic and really shows off that beautiful diamond of yours. And I love the way it looks with your wedding band - pure perfection. It is easy to be influenced by all of these gorgeous elaborate and ornate settings we see on Pricescope, and while there is nothing wrong with those, there is something to be said for simplicity.

HI:

It is classic. Elegant. Just perfect!

cheers--Sharon

I think your stone looks beautiful as a solitaire - I wouldn't change it at all!

Your solitaire is GORGEOUS!

I think that solitaires are just so elegant and classic.

In your beautiful solitaire setting your diamond is certainly the star of the show!

Wow, I wasn't expecting all that thank you. I have been really liking the look when I am by myself looking at my rings. It is when I am around some of my co workers with the halo rings covered in pave that I wonder if my ring is too plain. I guess the answer to that is no and I should buy another stacking band. :naughty: I do really enjoy stacking and changing up my look depending on my mood.

Honestly, I love the way your ring looks. It looks crisp, elegant, sleek...beautiful. That said, I can see why you wonder about resetting, and I hope you have more self-restraint than I do. When I start fantasizing about resets, I can't seem to let the idea go, until I do it. Since you had such great luck finding your gorgeous ring preloved, I would recommend that you go that route for you stacking band. If you purchase estate, and ever choose to reset because you can't get rid of the itch, at least you won't have invested a retail amount. Also, because you have a K AVC, you should definitely try on different bands before you commit to one. I have a K diamond, and I never liked it as a solitaire (it's not an ideal cut, so I tried to enhance the cut with side stones or a halo) and I especially did not like it against my G color diamond band...so I got rid of the band, and found my other bands estate and uncertified, and oddly enough, they work perfectly with my imperfect diamond.
Oh, and to answer your question, your solitaire is not too plain! But can you indulge us by showing us side views? Maybe you are referring to the side view and that is what is bothering you?

I have a solitaire and I love it. I've had a 3-stone ring, I've had a semi-bezel. The only thing I haven't tried is a halo, but I don't think that's my style. I love my solitaire-- nothing ever distracts from the center stone. Your diamond is gorgeous and should be the star IMO!

Here's a pic of my solitaire with and without my wedding band :)

Plain solitaire - classic, elegant and timeless.

I love your ring just as it is.

:appl:

I think your ring looks perfect the way it is. Solitaires are classic and elegant rings.

I think 3 stone, halo and side stone rings are pretty but solitaires allow your diamond to get all of the attention.

I wouldn't change it. The diamond is beautiful - let it speak for itself. I have a pear solitaire in a plain setting, but previously it was set with diamond shoulders. The previous setting was just blah. This setting gets admired & complimented almost everyday & gives me endless pleasure in its simplicity. My eternity ring hasn't been worn for a couple of months due to damage & its currently being re-made as we speak, but I have seriously come to love the plain wedding ring & plain solitaire look. Its timeless ;))

Sorry to join in and agree with all the opinions offered here but OMG your ring is PERFECT just the way it is IMO. A solitaire like that is not plain at all. Your AVC is gorgeous and can not only hold its own as the star but shines in a way that I don't think is possible in a more complex or blingy setting. It truly looks perfect the way it is set now and though I am sure it would look beautiful in many different settings this is my favorite. YMMV of course but since you are asking for opinions. Your setting as it is now is elegant, classic and sophisticated in the most understated and wonderful way.

I  your ring. So very much.

Rena7, I can tell you that as much as I have admired solitaires I never thought of myself as a solitaire girl. My mother had her classic tiffany 6 prong, lovely, but I always wanted an elaborate antique setting. Now as fate had it I have been wearing a solitaire-very similar in many aspects to yours- for a few months... and I am a believer!

I think your solitaire is sleek and elegant, goes with your hand and stackers beautifully- and just allows your utterly gorgeous diamond to be the star. It also allows you to admire all the different angles and views of her that could be covered up in a more elaborate setting.

Try on rings. Order some halo's from amazon and see how you like them on you. If there is a ring that calls you, then you won't really have any doubt about it.

MY GOD!!!!
THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL STONE !!!!!!!!!

the solitaire does not sit with the emerald band without the plain band spacer and for some reason the whole profile height difference bothers me.

the rest of my message got cut off.. I wanted to say that now I want to have a 3 stone ring made with the height to match the emerald band so it looks more like a wedding "set"

When I was saying plain what I meant was that it is a plain solitaire with no fancy basket or anything. I will try to get a profile picture up later. I normally look at it from the top down so I don't know that it is a big deal.

I have enjoyed seeing your different settings and I really love the one you have now. It must be even more tempting for you when you have such a good local jeweler.

I would definitely love to find a pre-loved band, I have a bit of a pre-loved addiction. :D

I think it is beautiful the way it is. I love the look of stacking bands. I also am crazy about detailed galleries, but it is not necessary.
I think you have a gorgeous ring and unless there was a significant structural problem with your ring, I wouldn't change a thing.

I am horrible with the multiple quotes so I am just going to try and type this out.

Happynewlife: Thank you. Your rings are beautiful, your diamond band is kind of what I was thinking of adding to my set.

Blingobsession & Marcy; Thank you both.

AlexT; That's interesting that you thought the plain solitaire looked better than the blingier setting. Your pear is beautiful.

Missy: You don't need to apologize, I love to hear your opinion.

Apacherose; It is so flattering to hear people on pricescope say they love my ring because you all have such beautiful pieces. I have said the same thing about solitaires myself and never thought they were for me. I think I am changing my mind.

ooo~Shiney; Thank you, I love your username.

Kellydean: Your solitaire is amazing.

Thank you. I do have a bit of a stacking addiction, could be worse.

As you know I love love love your set.
A stone like yours truly rocks a solitaire setting. In my opinion it's a dream set.

That said, you are having doubts about the solitaire setting from the start. So I think it's a great suggestion to try several settings to find out whether you are a halo-, solitaire- or sidestones girl.

I love your current setting as it is so elegant and refined and the diamond make a statement. Also, it's great for stacking
Good luck in making your decision :wavey:

I don't think they're plain, I think they're clean and simple and go with everything. And damn practical!

I think it looks magnificent!

Your right my goal from the start was a larger diamond for my next anniversary and didn't really have a setting in mind. I really do love to change up the look with different stacking bands so I think this might be the way to go.

Thank you ame. :wavey:

Here are the profile pictures. You can see the setting is just a simple plain solitaire. I do look at it from the top the most so I don't really notice the setting as much as the diamond. The diamond is definitely gorgeous.

Ditto, totally agree!

depends yr own preferences. if u plan to wear with some other bands, then its okay to be plain

for me, i have a big ring size (16.5 japanese size) and i think even a 1carat might not look nice on my finger.. not those thin n slim so i will think some design around the prongs or side will b great.. plus i really like bling bling diamonds... so i will at least do a simple side diamonds by the side

messages_image_1459709947_.png

something liked this... nice? a gap between so the center diamond will not be flushed in with the side diamonds lol
