Is a NSEW or Compass setting safe for my Asscher diamond?

I received a beautiful JA asscher diamond ring 9 months ago. I've had the prongs checked by a local jeweler, and still woke up to the stone missing from my ring. Miraculously I found it, and now I'd like to get the setting changed slightly to make it safer. Do you think I would be able to have this ring altered to a NSEW prong setting? Would it be smart to set the diamond in platinum? I'm trying to figure out a way to safely showcase the clipped corners of the stone, and make sure the whole thing is safer as well. img_2191_3.jpgimg_2220_3.jpg

I am so glad you found your stone! I am going to say that I think nsew prongs is less safe than prongs at the corners. You can do tab prongs on the corners that accentuate the shape, or you can do fine double claw prongs on the corners. Either of these will be safer than small single claw prongs.

It's 1 ct and I love the double claw prongs I just fear they might be too much for the size of the stone. Thanks so much for your advice!

I don't know if you can covert that head on that ring. You'd have to ask JA.

Whether or not you can set you asscher like that depends largely on the girdle. What is the girdle on your stone?

Slightly thick to thick

I see that your corners are very narrow and double claw wouldn't work. I just personally think setting NSEW is not flattering to the stone at all. The prongs are so much more intrusive. But if you like it, you certainly can do it. I don't consider that safer, though. 4 prongs is 4 prongs. Always insure your diamond ring regardless of how it is set.

Your stone will be fine with that style of setting.

It looks very nice!

Is it brighter? The setting looks like it lets in a lot of light.
