Is a 1.8 ct cushion or radiant too small for a halo?

I am wondering if the 1.8 ct cushion cut ring I am getting too small for a micro pave halo around it (with the same pave band) around the ring. I have heard some people say halos are better for larger center stones. I can't find a picture of a ring of that size with a halo. We are also considering a gorgeous radiant about the same size. The same question would apply to this. Is the diamond too small for a halo?

thank you

Too small for a halo?
That's like saying, too hungry to eat, too tired to sleep or too thirsty to drink.

One reason people have halos is to make their "small" stone seem larger for a lower price than buying a larger diamond.

People vary but I think many people would feel a 1.8 ct is a substantial size.
By any chance did you by mean to ask ... is a 1.8 ct too large for a halo?

definitely not too small for a halo.

My thought also was, is it too large for a halo?

Too small for a halo? No. If anything, it'd be the opposite.

agreed. It really varies though on your finger size, and the look you are going for.

definitely not too small for a halo. i'm sure there are examples on PS of similar sized diamonds in halos...

thank you everyone! Yes the jeweler himself said it may be too small, not too large :)

No way too small. I have a 1.5 ct cushion in a halo and everyone thinks the overall ring looks massive on my hand.

I'd find another jeweler.

A 1.8 in a halo sounds perfectly proportional, unless you're going with 5pointers in the halo or something!

I am not the least bit surprised that your (gorgeous) ring looks massive on your sub-size-3 finger

yeah, the answer is NO! Not too small. I think halos on big stones over 2 carats is gaudy. Pardon my french! :)

Ouch! :wink2: (kidding, of course) We are having my ering designed and handcrafted by Oscar Heyman with a 4.03 center stone. I tried on a 4.01 center stone halo at Harry Winston and thought it was beautiful... not too large for my size 4.25 finger. For fun I even tried on the 8 ct center stone halo ("The One") at HW and it still didn't look too big! I'm guessing it was because it was a HW

My e-ring is going to be a 4.09ct centre with a double halo in pink diamonds... I guess that must be right up there on the gaudy-o-meter! Having said that, the ring is designed only for me to enjoy, so I do understand why it may not be to others' tastes. Variety is the spice of life and all that.

In any case, I think a 1.8ct centre with a halo will look perfectly refined. All that matters is that you are happy with it.

Not too small.
