We currently bought a princess cut diamond .85 carat, F, VVS2 for $2900. Would like to know if we paid too much and if this size is a 3/5 carat or a light 1 carat diamond. What carat weight consitutes as a light 1 carat?

Thanks!

The diamond brokers can correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that "light carat" means 0.96-0.99. It definitely doesn't include a 0.85 ct stone. But I can't see anyone calling it a "3/4 carat" either. I think it would probably be referred to as an 85-pointer. But this is kind of splitting hairs, IMO.

A "light carat" to "us" is 0.98 - 0.99 carats... A diamond weighing 0.78 - 0.79 carats is what we would call a heavy three grainer... Each "grain" representing a quarter carat in weight... 0.85 carats doesn't really fall into either the three quarter carat or one carat weight categories, it's kind of in it's own zone...

Sounds like you got a good deal. I ran a quick Pscope search for $$ comparisions and found some F VVS2 .85c princess stones for around $3100-3500 depending on the cut and/or vendor markup. If you got it at a B&M you got a great deal as they usually have a higher mark up than online pricing does.
