Greetings

I need help to identify whether the color of the stone is natural or artificially irradiated. I has a few reddish inclusions inside the stone. These inclusions are situated mostly in the crown and the bezel facets. Please see image. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply! I was told "It's a diamond."

Sorry. Nothing about it looks like a diamond, real or simulant. Have them present a colored diamond certification from GIA. If they can't, walk away. Red diamonds are the rarest color. It looks to be 12-14 mm in the long direction. A .85 c of about 6*4 mm is $610000. Something this large would be priceless. The largest red ever graded by GIA was 5 carats.Run don't walk away.

It's a 10mm stone. It's not red. The color is pink. Thank you for the response.

That is NOT a diamond, natural, lab-grown, color of natural or treated origin.
That is NOT a diamond.

Run from this seller!

There is no seller. The ring belongs to my mother. Thank you for the reply.

Defsy not a diamond..pink tourmaline comes to mind, but it could be another gem or a lab created stone... as the saying goes "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is."

d&emerald- that is very sweet that you're helping your mom.
Unfortunately, over the years we've seen so many cases of a family member thinking they had a diamond when it was not a diamond.
Based on the pic, you're getting good advice- diamonds to not look like that.

@d&emerald the best thing you can do to estimate the value of the stone is to 1. Take it to a reputable appraiser. You can look at the PS recommended list of appraisers here: https://www.pricescope.com/appraisers The appraiser should be able to estimate the variety of the stone and if it is natural or lab-created. And 2. Depending on what the suggested value is, you may then decide to send it off to GIA/AGL for further verification. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the information.

Do diamonds have windows?

Tourmaline is pleochroic. dichroic, double refraction and has conchoidal fracture. The stone is definitely not tourmaline. In fact, it has a chip at the girdle and it's not conchoidal.

Not a diamond, sorry. Can I ask the obvious question of: are your parents billionaires?

d&emerald, if you really want to know what it is, take it to a gem lab to be tested. A photo really isn't enough to diagnose anything. If it's an enormous pink or red diamond, it will be so valuable that the cost of the gem lab testing will be negligible.
Is there anything about the provenance of this ring that would back up your assertion of it being a diamond other than you've been told by someone that it was and therefore have always believed it?

Pink topaz?

No, my parents are not billionaires. I simply said, it's not a tourmaline but could be another type excluding diamond. The images are large but the stone is a bit over 4 carats.

I was thinking it might be a garnet. Are there any inclusion you can take pictures of? That might help identify the material as gems often have distinctive shaped inclusions.

5 carats? No, not a diamond. I like the topaz possibility, or rubelite. Send it in to GIA. Doesn't cost much and you will know for sure what you have. I hope that @Sparkle_ruckle doesn't mind me posting her colored diamond ring so you can see the difference.

Yes, can we get more pics? It is a pretty ring. I didn't mean the billionaire thing in a snarky way-- we get some wealthy people who pass through here...

Could possibly be spinel, but with color and clarity my guess would be synthetic.
