IRequest: ideas for simple setting of marquise solitaire

Hi all,

i am new, been reading up on this forum for a while and looked around for engagement ring.

would like to seek some inputs for a nice elegant design for setting a marquise solitaire (approx 0.70).

i suppose a 2-prong setting will best accentuate the size of the marquise, but i am concerned about how secure the setting will be.

Not sure how 2 prongs would work but I would imagine the two V-prongs on the tips of the stone are definitely needed, if they get bigger (and the ring longer along the finger, which you seem not to mind), why not

I know this is a stretch, but look how the emerald cut is held in the ring below... and picture a marquize held by V prongs (instead of the flat ones for the Ec.). If this is anywhere close to waht you had in mind, this ring will end up custom made - I have yet to see a generic version.

And one more thing with two 'points of contact' holding the stone... If you like bezels this would make an airy compromise, I think.

i would feel nervous having only two prongs...if it is actual prongs you are speaking of, rather than two "points of contact" like the image above...i think it would be safer with at least 4.

yup, i would think v-prongs is a must at the apexes.
also, may have to make the prongs longer for improved grip, yes? but dunno how it will look visually though.

saw the vatche royal crown setting in one other thread but personally i found it too elaborate.

Well, this is why there is an exchange of pictures between the maker of the ring (assuming not-local jeweler and CAD) and the client.

Did you see the ring story of "Appreciative-of-Expertise" ? He pretty much brouhgt all the communication with Mark online
