Hi and welcome to PS. I like the setting for some stone, like the EC shown. But, if you have swelly hands, the open bottom might be bothersome if you touch the pointy culet. But, as a hairdresser, I'd look at a bezel setting. Its the prongs on the main diamond and even the small ones with that form of pave (open on the sides) that will catch fine hair.

How about a bezel-set stone with a bead-set pave shank?

This is an example of bead setting. The stones are still pave set (held by tiny prongs), but the metal channel helps to avoid them from catching. This is also very open on the bottom for cleaning. The solid shank over the finger will also help protect you if you have swelly fingers, but this setting could be modified to have a totally open gallery like the LaurenB setting.

You can still have a hidden halo type effect on a bezel without a halo.

I love the VC bead set pave setting!! :kiss2:
Agreed: the prongs are the issue, as pertaining to catching hair, etc. My friend is a beautician, and she doesn’t wear prong jewelry at all, when doing hair.
The engraved band is her wedding ring. The top photo shows a diamond ring her DH gave her as an anniversary gift. The bottom photo is her WR with a sapphire Anniversary Band. The only ring she wears at work is the WR.

Side note: I LOVE her nails...lol!! :lol-2:

If ypu want to wear the ring at work, platinum or palladium are less reactive and damaged by chlorine.

LOL find it funny how you ladies comment on nails. But as a guy I think your friend is a cool chick.....go Pittsburgh! I’m more of a football guy but never turned down a good hockey game either.

On a related note, one of my buddies was married to a hairdresser. She had a decent rock and was constantly upset that hair spray and other gunk was getting on the stone taking down the sparkle factor and making her clean more often. I didn’t care for her much and thought she was a whiner so I don’t know if her complaint was valid or not as I tended to ignore her as much as possible. However if it is real you might consider this with whatever design you choose.

this is a LEGIT concern! I don't put on any of my jewelry until my hair is done and perfume is already on. hair product, especially hairspray will gunk up a ring SO fast.

Thank you for confirming. It makes sense.

FYI, this poor girl would complain about everything. I can adapt and blend well to most personalities and she was one I struggled with just because of her negative outlook on pretty much everything, not just cleaning her dirty ring.

Oh, I hear ya, i work with a few like that. i can't deal with negativity.

I had a halo that was open on the bottom like the DBL setting. It was set very very low. It was super easy to clean, but I do have puffy fingers and I felt like the diamond was always almost touching my finger. I didn't love it. I only kept that setting for a hot second so I can't tell you how I would have done with it long term. I think an open type bezel would be your best bet. Then you would have no prongs and the stone would be easily accessible for cleaning.

Thank you so much for all the replies!

I don't have any problems with finger swelling so I think I would be ok. I know I should get a bezel set but they just don't appeal to me unfortunately :(2

I will make sure not to have open prongs on the side stones but will hope there are no issues with the prongs for the main stone! Thankfully I never have with my moonstone ring. Hair doesn't snag on it I just can get tiny hairs trapped in from clipper cuts.

Rubbing alcohol/isopropyl alcohol will be your friend. That will dissolve the hair-spray. Give the ring a scrub with blue dawn+hot water and a toothbrush. Soak for a bit in alcohol. Rinse. Repeat. It might take some work to get all the hairspray off.

You should still remove your ring when doing foils and conducting chemical services. You can get a necklace holder for it, don't just leave it at your station or the edge of a sink. They can get knocked off and damaged. Make a concerted effort to keep the skin under the ring clean and dry to avoid dermatitis.

Have you thought of a bezel set halo?
