International diamond prices

Hi all you experts.

I am on the doorstep of engaging. My fiancee is from the US and I am from Europe. When she will be visiting me in Europe I will ask her "to become my wife".
But what I really am curious about is the prices (and quality) of diamonds. Would the exact same diamond (shape, size, colour and quality) be about the same price in both the US as well as in Europe, or would you say that the market in the US is better to buy a diamond?

She wants a princess cut and says that size doesn''t matter.
I prefer to give something in perfect quality, which automatically means smaller, than huge and imperfect.

Desperate now that time is closing in!

I'm not an expert, but the consensus for US people is that we can typically get lower prices off the Internet from US and Canadian vendors than we can going to Europe. Taxes and import laws may make a difference for you.

A good way to get a feel for US pricing is to use the PRicescope search engine on the home page. Put your parameters in and see what comes up. You may also want to contact a few of the vendors via phone or email. THey are pretty responsive and helpful, often being able to find something for you or give you opinions about various stones.

THere are lots of good Internet vendors. Searching here on the various names will give you fedeback from lots of different customers.

One last note....

If you start reading some of the threads here, you'll find that the common theme is that Cut is by far the most important parameter, and you can go down in color and clarity if you buy a great cut without anyone being able to tell. There are a few guys who have recently purchased princess stones, so they might be able to give you some advice. (I'm a round brilliant person, myself
