Hello, PSers... I am playing musical chairs right now with jewelry insurance.
I have some items with Jewelers Mutual, some with GemShield, and 1 with my homeowners carrier.
The one on the homeowners policy will definitely be going to a jeweler-specific carrier.
However, what is everyone's opinions between Jewelers Mutual and GemShield? They are both replacement policies. GemShield is less expensive.
I am definitely putting my 2 recut AGS reports BGD branded stones with Jewelers Mutual since these stones are very specific as far as replacement is concerned.
But what about other items: I have my avatar stone GIA 2.01ct 3X E, SI2, and I also have an emerald cut set in a pendant GIA VS2, H, 0.86ct. Those 2 are on a GemShield policy together, currently, and the premium with zero deductible is extremely inexpensive.
The item with my homeowners policy is a very specific estate piece: tennis bracelet 4.50ctw, platinum, all transitional cuts in octagonal pave'/bead set links (as if that is easily replaceable!).
Thoughts? Do I move everything over to JM? I've heard they are the ones to be with. Or do I keep the "lesser" items with GemShield?
Thanks for your input.

State Farm’s personal articles policy was the best option for me when I shopped. They are not expensive and offer open peril coverage, have a nice range of deductibles, etc. Plus, A-rated company. Have you gotten a quote from them?

@Lvoeshinythings thank you for your post. I can’t believe no one else has feedback! Anyhow, I want to go with a jeweler-specific insurer. They are not my homeowners carrier, I have Farmers, and have had (and still do, at the present) have specific items “scheduled” with them but I have heard from many throughout the years that when it comes to replacement, they want you to work with their list of jewelers and they provide the most minimal of replacement they can get away with based on the item’s description. But I appreciate your feedback and taking the time.

Interesting. I wonder how a carrier like State Farm would handle replacement? Especially for a branded item like Whiteflash ACA. It seems they would need to replace with same/similar branded item. Can anyone chime in?

That's exactly one of my concerns!

My homeowners is through Costco and I grilled them about this when I added my new ring to my policy. They said they refer back to the actual appraisal so the description isn’t as important, but I made them note crafted by infinity anyway. They claimed they did replacement value instead of “like item”. It used to be Ameriprise but they just switched to something else.

This is exactly what I'm talking about, what I am concerned with. "Supposedly", and I think I actually read it here but don't quote me on that, Jewelers Mutual is the best with regard to providing you with a branded stone if that is, in fact, what you have, etc.
Ugh, my husband is so over all this jewelry insurance but I told him unless he wants to outright replace anything lol this is the way it is!!!
