I just purchased a ring from WF for about $18000. I paid so little thanks to the glitch they had. I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to replace the ring for $18000 if I lose it. Should I get the ring appraised somewhere? I just don't want to insure the ring for only $18000, but definitely don't want an inflated appraisal.

If you genuinely think Whiteflash would not source another similar stone for a similar price, then definitely get it appraised. Use one of the PS-recommended appraisers to ensure that you don't get a 'smoke up the backside' value. :))

Yes you should get it appraised but make sure the appraiser knows you want it insured for real value and not an inflated replacement value. Do some research on similar diamonds so you should have a ballpark idea of what the appraiser's final value should roughly be.

Did WF send a sales receipt with the original price minus the discount caused by the glitch? I am insuring for the original amount of my earring stones, not the price I paid. Lucky you to have bought a ring stone then!!!

justginger and sarahbear, thank you! I'll look into making an appointment with an appraiser in the city.

ds, oh, now I see that they stated the discount caused by glitch (-$9000) on the invoice I received. I'll contact JM to see if I could insure the ring for the price before discount. Thank you!

Very nice savings! Good for you!!

You are very welcome! That was really nice of them to honor those prices, wasn't it? I just wonder if I shouldn't have gone larger on my studs!!!
