I know this topic has been talked about. I did a search about insurance but am still confused. If I buy a loose diamond from a PS vendor and then want to send it to someone else in another state to make the setting, how do I go about insuring the loose stone? I know State Farm who is my insurance co. will not insure loose stones. I''m still not clear as to whether Chubb and/or Jewelers Mutual will insure the loose diamond. What has been anyone''s experience in this situation? Thanks.

Latest thread about Jeweler's Mutual: Insurance coverage available for loose stones to be mounted

Jewelers Mutual will insure loose stones that are in the process of being set. We require that the individual obtain an appraisal/insurance evaluation for the stones and setting and purchase a policy for the total value. The policy must be in force before the stones are being set if the individual wants coverage for the setting process. Not only is the individual covered for the setting process, he or she is covered for loss, damage, theft, and mysterious disappearance for the next 12 months. Our rates vary based on location. We have a rate estimator and an online application on our web site: InsureYourJewelry.com.

Cind11,

I also agree for you to read that link bc it should clarify the issue for you. In addition, I just wanted to let you know that I am going through that process right now and my bf has just completed everything with JM so our insurance is in place. NOW we can safely send our stone off to our jeweler in another state to make our setting and complete the ring. I just wanted to make sure our stone would be covered while it is being set bc of chipped stone issues, loss, theft, etc

If you have any questions or need a person for Jeweler''s Mutual if you do decide to go with JM, let me know bc the person who helped us was very helpful and prompt.

Thanks PS administrator, I willl post about my experience if I go this route.

Diamondlove, could you tell me the name of the person form Jewelers Mutual? It would be nice to deal with a helpful person. Thanks.

Cindy

You should send all the documents on the setting and on the diamond to the JM attn SUe Fritz. She is the one who posted on here earlier with the info. Just explain that the diamond is currently loose. I did this last week and I am awaiting confirmation on insurance.

Actually Sue Fritz doesn''t process insurance apps I don''t think bc she''s the one who directed me to the person I ended up dealing with. Her name is Kelley and here is her info:

Kelley A. Green, Personal Lines Manager
Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company
888-884-2424 ext. 2226 Fax 920-969-7216
[email protected] www.jewelersmutual.com

I originally contacted Sue bc of her posts on this forum but she cc''ed Kelley on the emails and Kelley was able to get us covered immediately after she received all of our documents.

Froufrou, you might want to go ahead and contact Kelley bc Sue was out of town last week and I''m not sure when she''ll be back or I''m sure Sue will be contacting you shortly.

Thanks for the info. Diamondlove, I appreciate it.
