My FF and I were lucky enough to get ahold of a brand-new Tiffany Etoile Solitaire from a 3rd party. It was checked out at Tiffany and all of the paperwork matches up with the inscriptions on the band and in the diamond. I am soooo excited! We got such a good deal! The Valuation Report is under a year old so we were told that it''s still valid. The cutomer service rep also said that they wouldn''t be able to draw up new papers for us anyway and that we''d have to use an outside appraiser if we wanted anything else.
OK, so now here are my questions.... I don''t own a home, so I''d like some advice about where to go for insurance. I''ve heard a few company names thrown out around here, but I need a company that can insure me and give me back *exactly* what I have, a Tiffany Etoile ring. Also, I have 2 copies of the Valuation report, one to send to the insurance company... Is it OK that it''s someone else''s name on the report? If I just black that portion out, will that do, or would most reputable companies prefer a new independent appraisal in my name? Sorry for all of the questions, I just want to insure my beauuuuutiful ring!

You are most likely going to have to spend some of your saved money for an appraisal with your name and address on it. Jewelers Mutual has a policy to cover jewelry without homeowner''s coverage. Probably a couple others also offer such coverage, too. Many of the appraisers listed on Pricescope are Jewelers Mutual clients and their appraisals will be readily accepted by JM.

Is the ring the only thing you own that you want to insure against fire or theft? Depending on your personal financial situation and what else you own, you might want to get renter''s insurance to cover your other belongings, and you could add the ring as a rider to that. Renter''s insurance is considerably cheaper than homeowner''s insurance because it doesn''t cover the structure of your house.

I live in a co-op, so I also don''t have to worry about insuring my home, but I do have an insurance policy for my belongings.
