Ok I need some more expert advice please! I just bought a ring and I do not want to give it to my girlfriend before insuring it. How does one go about doing this? I am buying a condo at the end of the month. Do I have to wait until I do this and get homeowner''s insurance? Is that the only way to insure a diamond? I would like to insure it sooner so I can present it to her and pop the question! Any advice? thanks!

Mikie- what stone did you buy??? I must have missed the post if you posted!!!

You can take a chance and wait until you have homeowners insurance or you can get your jewelry insured by Jewelers Mutual or Chubb Ins. Both companies write insurance on jewelry with any other insurance.

One word of caution. Something can happen to your diamond engagement ring on the first day of never at all. I had a customer that purchased a diamond from me ten months ago call last week. They had put off getting the ring insured. She has put a significant chip in her diamond. She was sick about it and was not looking forward to telling her husband.

Call an insurance agent and ask if you can insure a diamond ring. I used State Farm (two days ago). It's pretty easy to find an agent. http://www.statefarm.com/jscript/easysrch.htm
