Insurance for sending jewellery abroad

I'm wondering how traders insure their items whilst in transit? Normally I buy a policy from a broker every time I send something overseas but it's really expensive £100 per item usually ($165) so I'm trying to find something cheaper. None of the couriers (Fedex DHL etc) seem to offer anything.

Also, when you insure an item that is worth a lot eg $3000, what do you put for customs? I always put something really low because I get worried it'll be stolen if I say it's a platinum and diamond ring but I'm not really sure if I should do that?

Thanks

Are you selling or getting work done ?

What you decide to claim would need to be agreed upon with the buyer. The buyer most likely would be taxed though.
Also I think UPS/FEDEX has their own brokers that handle the taxes and such and it can be pretty high from what I've seen.
Are you shipping it to the US ? If so shipping it via Postal service is also an option with insurance and signature required on delivery. This may save the buyer some fees.

I'd consider using http://www.malcaamit.com

They specialize in shipping high-value diamonds/jewelry around the world.
I don't think they'll be the cheapest, but they may be the safest.

Looking to send a high value item to the US from Australia. What’s my safest option? I’ve done a lot of research but still a bit confused? I know this is an old thread but has there been any light on this?

Many thanks!
