Hi all -

In my previous posting I mentioned I had the jeweler whom I purchased my fiance's wedding band from, do an inscription.

I went to get the ring and I thought it was horrible looking.

The ring is about 3mm in width and my phrase "ALL MY LOVE" took up the entire width of the band.

If looks like I was yelling it at her.

The good side is when she's 90 years old, she will see it with no glasses. :)

The problem is the ring is very classy looking - this makes it look trashy. It's too much "in your face".

It's in Plat 950.

Can I have this inscription buffed out and have another one put in - smaller - half the size?

I'm not going back to this store because he wasn't suppose to do anything without talking to me first about what font/size it was going to be.

Does this remove any Platinum from the ring?

The inscription was machine made.

I'll post a picture later tonight.

OK, the highlighted areas had me roaring!

Is this on the inside or out?

I''ll let an expert answer your questions.

Inside the ring.

But I know it''s there - yelling at her.

We PriceScopers like our ideal quality - and I just want it fixed - even though I''m going to have pay extra for it. I''m okay with that...

I just want to know what I should expect.

The guy took off the PLAT 950 and the brand stamp. Like I said, he was going to see if it was going to fit before removing anything and he didn''t.

Bumping, hoping someone will answer.

I want to say I think it can be done, without much problem, but I'm really not positive.

HAHAAAHAAAAHHAAAAAAA - omigosh that is so funny!!!!!!

unfortunately i don''t know the anwser to your question, but i would assume it can be done.

That is hilarious. Yelling at her. ROFL.

They should definitely be able to polish that off and do it again properly. Like, whispering sweet nothings size....not screaming size.
2.gif

I agree that I believe they should be able to polish it off. Hilarious take on it though. I got an image of someone screaming at their FI "ALL MY LOVE" over and over again. Hahaha. Thanks for your great sense of humor.

*M*

This should be no problem at all. When I had my husband''s band engraved, it looked really bad and so I brought it somewhere else to have it polished/buffed out and redone. It was 14k gold, but I''m sure with platinum, it should be just as easily done!
1.gif

Here is the ring - does it look like I'm yelling? :) Does it make the ring less appealing?

ringesp102.jpg

Dang. Well you sure were right about her always being able to see it! I think the script and the size of it combined is what makes it less appealing. If you do get it re-done smaller, maybe something in more of a scroll would keep it fancy.

*M*

Honestly, I think it looks nice! But now that you''ve said it looks like you''re yelling, that''s what I keep thinking!
9.gif
However, email etiquette does not always apply...

I have only had gold items engraved, but I'd suggest calling around and asking if anyone does hand engraving. It is so much more beautiful, and for a wedding band, I think it is more appropriate.

(I started this reply before you posted the picture. I think the engraving is okay. I'm not sure I'd change it.)

Actually, I wanted to say:

Love, Honor and Cherish 9/8/07

But the guy told me that wouldn''t fit. No wonder - he uses big letters.

He actually told me he may be able to do Love and Honor but he said I would have to spell AND like AN. ie. Love an Honor.

I just sat there on the phone in slience thinking he was going to laugh but he was serious - then I said, "that''s not proper grammar" it has to be AND.

Anyway, I have a call into the place where I bought my wedding band, to see if they can fix it and put something a little bit pleasing to the eye.

Thanks guys!

LOL

Let us know how it turns out!

I was thinking...has he never thought of using this symbol...&...instead of ''an'' for ''and''??????

I thought of that too - using & but he didn''t have that symbol.

i have to bookmark your thread for whenever i need a good chuckle!

what''s up with this guy? why did he have to remove the plat stamp, your inscription only covers 1/2 the band? just for point of referece, my band is 3mm plat in size 6, and it is engraved with FRIEND LOVER SOULMATES in about the size and font as yours, and it only goes about 3/4 the way around and still has the plat stamp in the unengraved space. and yes, it does look like yelling and now i realize my husband has been yelling at me for 6 years!
2.gif

i have always liked my inscription just fine, but i agree that having it smaller, and maybe in a script, is a little more sweet and romantic. you should have it say what you want (it seems like it should be feasible). its'' funny, i am a graphic designer and yet until now i never really gave much thought to the engraving style. guess the sentiment was all i cared about!

LOL. I don't usually actually laugh out loud while reading posts but that did it. I am pretty tough on service though, that would have lost my business right there

. After I got my ring back and called all my friends and had a huge roarfest.

The teacher side of me REALLY appreciates that you felt the need to say that to him, propably with a straight face and completely deadpanned, and he still didn''t get it! Thank you soooo much for the chuckles...definitely what I needed today!

I didn''t think the inscription was too terrible, but I too picture it yelling at her. I think a smaller script with what you want to say would be better, but if not, you''re right, she can still read it when she''s 90! LMAO!!!

I, too, thank you for the grammar comment. I would have been confused myself!

*M*

I think it looks fine. BUT if it bugs you then by all means have it redone. And you answered your own question when you said he removed the platinum stamp.

And I do think that him suggesting AN instead of AND is bizarre.

My wedding ring has "&" engraved instead of the word "and" to save space.

Oh my gosh, I''m snorting here too.

I think you''ve got a great sense of humor!

But I take your point on the LARGE FONT - ugh. And the grammatical error he proposes? WT*? Who would choose that?

You have a wonderful sense of humor and I love that in a guy
1.gif
I''m sure she''ll be happy with sentiment regardless, but I do hope you can get it FIXED TOMORROW.

Thanks for the guffaw,

Jeannie

I think that it looks nice! I honestly would not have thought anything about the large font until you made the ''yelling at her'' comment, lol. The font on my DH & my wedding bands is the same, though not as deep. If you are not happy then it should be fixed, but I think that it is pretty.

>>>why did he have to remove the plat stamp, your inscription only covers 1/2 the band?

What you don''t see is the date next to ALL MY LOVE 9-8-07

Then he put PL next to it because he removed Plat950.

He told me he would lay out my phrase and before he does anything call me - but he didn''t.

Spoke to the jeweler who is selling me my ring.

He said it would be better to hand engrave the ring vs machine.

Has anybody had hand engraving done? I have heard that it can look a little inconsistent.

The machine doesn''t cut deep into the ring, so it can be brushed out with minium lose of platinum.

I''ll post pictures when it''s completed.

Thank goodness it can be brushed out. Can the original jeweller (the one who sold you the band) do the engraving? I'd have the font smaller and use your original words - its much more romantic. A little inconsistency with handgraving is acceptable, plus with the smaller font, it won't really be noticeable.

oh good, i''m glad you can have it done the way you really want! can''t wait to see new pics.....

I guess but I don''t want to go back to him (the one that sold me my fiance''s wedding band).

We have to go pick-up my wedding band next weekend. We are getting married in 8 weeks, so need to iron out all the last minor details.

I liked my jeweler better and he also matched an internet price for my ring. He didn''t carry or couldn''t get her ring (pictured above), so I went with that Font Face jeweler.

He''s going to take a look at it and I''m sure it will cost me some small fee but I don''t mind.

Give me a few weeks and I''ll post the pictures. :)

Hand engraving is almost always the preferred method for fine jewelry. It is an art that is uncommon these days, so it is usually more expensive than machine engraving. But it is definitely more beautiful if done properly.

UPDATE:

Took her ring to my jeweler and he said it was too deep to brush out. He was suprised it was machine engraved and that deep. He said we would loose too much platinum.

That same day, I took it back to the orginal jewelers but the owner wasn''t in... however, one of the engravers were there and he said he didn''t do it my ring (the owner actually engraved it) but his suggestion was to leave it alone because it was too deep to brush out.

This is where my OCD (disorder) kick in - I''ll be the first to admit it and some of us PriceScopers have a small case of OCD where angles have to be perfect. :)

The manuafactures stamp AK and Plat 950 were removed without my permission. The font size is larger than we thought but I got use to it.

He told the sales person over the phone when I was there that he will talk to me the next day when he was in the office. But I couldn''t get up there to meet with him. However, he did say to the salesperson that it''s non-returnable because it was a customer order.

My dispute is not with the order - it''s what happend to it after I bought it, in his office.

She loves the ring from the outside, the diamonds are very good. But the inside of the ring is somewhat dissappointing. And we are 7 weeks away from getting married.

I told her to think hard today about what she wants me to do - press the jewelers to get us a new ring or just live with it.

This is a perfect example of the lack of communication some people have. This could have been avoided if I was kept in the loop to what actally he was going to do to the ring and what it was going to look like.

More later...
