Hi all and thank you in advance for your knowledge. What a terrific web site!!!!

We have the ring, think we''ve found the diamond. Here are the stat.''s....

1.52 round brilliant, SI1, color grade D,
depth 62.0%, table width 57%,
crown height 14%, pavillion depth 44%,
girdle medium faceted, polish and symmetry excellent,
cut grade excellent & fluorescence none.
EGL certified. Price $5100.00.

HCA, though was a 3....

What am I missing?

PS. This is from an on-line jewelry store with a store in another state...

THANK YOU!!!

The pavillion depth% translates to about a 41.4 degree angle on that diamond. Anything over 41 degrees and the diamond can start to leak light (reflecting light out the pavilliion and away from the viewer).

You may also be aware the EGL is generally considered more lenient in grading diamonds and the same stone submitted to GIA or AGS might come back two grades lower (or even more in some cases). The price is extremely low for a true D-SI1 in this size, which leads me to believe that the grading might be very lenient.

If you are purchasing sight unseen online, I would recommend passing on this one and continuing to look, there are just too many red flags.

Makes sense all...thank you. I thought I had educated myself, but now know I still have alot to learn!

. Another question....I have found that when looking at some GIA reports on line (either through the GIA website or the seller itself) they are lacking the crown and pavillion information. They may have the table and depth information but not that. So, how do I utilize HCA without that information?

Thanks for the kind expertise....Diane

You can''t. You can narrow it down to depths that you like and tables you like, then you would need to call to get the rest of the information from the vendor.
