Hey all,
So I gave up on the quest for an ags 0 oval and fell in love with a van craeynest setting. I''m now looking for a round brilliant and need your input on one in particular. It''s an ags 000 1.21ct. Here are the specs for it along with an is image and hearts image. As always, thanks in advance:
Depth: 61.2%
Table: 56.8%
Crown Angle: 33.8°
Crown %: 14.50
pavilion Angle: 41.0°
pavilion %: 43.40
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Girdle: Thin to medium
Culet: None
Fluorescence: Negligible
Measurements: 6.88*6.91*4.21

The diamond is a J color. Should I be concerned about that or will it face up white? Please let me know. thanks.

looks good, what is the clarity rating? Has the feather been checked for durability issues?

Ditto?

A J colour of this size and cut will still face up white, you might notice a breath of warmth from the side but it will be minimal, you will still have a white diamond.

Ditto.

Looks nice!

thanks everyone! the clarity is si1 and I''ve been told that it is eye clean except for the inclusion at 6:00 which can be covered by a prong. Is that what you''re referring to as the feather? I''ve attached a pic of the diamond for reference.

Ya, that is the inclusion.

Yes, you can see the feather clearly in the IS image, ask for their gemologist Julianna to inspect the stone regarding the feather due to its location that it isn''t a durability issue ( rare but best to check, if I were buying it I would want that feather checked out), then if you get the thumbs up you should be good to go.

Thanks lorelei. I sent an email and will let you know what Julianna says. At the risk of having this purchased by someone else, the price for a diamond of this size is noticeably less compared to others. It's 4520 whereas this one at whiteflash is 1.15 ct and over 1k more:

the one I'm interested in scored a 1.3 on the hca but only had 2 excellent scores (very good on scintillation and spread). Could the feather inclusion be a reason for the lower price?

Here is what the sales executive wrote in an email to me:
"The feather will not cause any durability risks, and can easily be pronged. It will not be visible to the naked eye and will not effect the diamond nor its brilliance."
I guess we have a winner! Any explanation for the lower price? (not that I''m complaining...)

ACA is branded H&A cut, so is priced slightly higher.

Guess the visible inclusion is also a factor in the lower price of the JA stone.

That sounds fine. Price difference is easily accountable, an ACA is a branded cut and will carry a premium plus various benefits, extra images supplied etc.

Sounds like the JA diamond is eyeclean too so thats great.

With a WF ACA, you are paying a little more for the branding and for the better trade-in and return policies. Also with the way diamonds are purchased from and by cutters, fluctuations in the market, which cutting house, and many other factors play into the price of the diamond.

The one from JA looks very nice. (Also the first hearts image I have seen from them. They have done a very good job with that aspect)

wow... I''m excited and nervous at the same time. I''ve never purchased a diamond before. I put it on hold and will be sure to take pics. Thanks for all of your help.

Good Luck. :)

Congrats! Will look forward to pics.

I wanted to give an update on this thread. Darin at James Allen was flat out amazing and the customer service was excellent. August was a rough month for me as my 12 year old nephew passed away and 3 days after his funeral I had to put my cat to sleep. That unexpected cost did not leave me enough money to purchase the diamond. Darin was kind enough to put it on hold until I received my next pay check. I received the diamond yesterday and it is amazing. I took it to a local jewelery store, wondering if it needed to be cleaned and he said the cut was really nice. I'll take pictures of it soon. A 1.21 ct ags 000 for 4500? I still can't believe it!

Oh wow, I''m so sorry, about everything.

And I''m so pleased to hear how JA stepped up to the plate foir you, very nice. Please post pics when you can, we''d love to see it.

Thanks Ellen.

It will be awhile before I buy the setting so I'd like to ask-should I keep the diamond in it's tension clasp or take it out and store it loose?
