A few questions.....

If a stone has an AGS certificate and a Sarin report, is there still a need for an independent appraisal?

If I plan on using the same jeweler I buy the stone from for polishing, repair, upgrades, etc., is there any need to have a stone inscribed with a serial number?

Hi Christie,

It's nice to have a stone laser inscribed as it makes it easy to identify. It would be good too if you have the jeweler show you under the microscope where your diamond's inclusions are so you can always identify your own stone when you drop it off and pick it up for any repairs.

An independent appraisal is useful for many reasons. Also, if you use the seller to provide you with an appraisal for insurance purposes, be sure that the appraisal is for the amount you paid for the diamond and ring.
