Incorporating e-ring stone into wedding band?

I am currently sporting a 1.12 carat RB diamond in a "temporary" 6-prong, white gold setting, and the plan was always to reset the diamond in a setting of my choice after my wonderful now-fiance made the final selection of the diamond on his own.

However, the more I think about it (6 months have passed since we got engaged), the more I don''t see myself wearing a "set" of rings once we''re married - so I''m considering other options.

For example, setting the current diamond into a band so it looks less engagement-ish (lower setting, etc) to wear as a wedding band. I LOVE the unusual, somewhat "open" design of the first ring on this page by Mark Morrell (the "daisy" band), though I think a 1 carat would be difficult to accommodate in anything like it:

I''ve also considered resetting the diamond in a ring (perhaps with sidestones) to wear on my right hand.

Does anyone have any experience with this, or any suggestions? I assume this will have to be a custom piece, but our wedding isn''t until next April so we''d have some time to think it out... Any thoughts or suggestions would be wonderful!

A tension band comes first to mind as the typical compromise between band and ring... not sure it would be close to Mark's floral design though. Engraving or inlays could definitely make the look of the ring less minimalist. The band could be thinner than the stone is wide and what not, if the basic idea of the design appeals to you.

Keeping the flower band in mind, it seems that a low bezel could be incorporated in the design.

Why don't you talk to someone about something custom, if you like that style? Perhaps set the center stone and then have openwork down the sides? This celtic knot design, or something like it, would look nice with openwork, and is substantial enough you wouldn't "need" a wedding band...

Or, maybe the half bezel setting the Whiteflash offers. PQ's is beautiful, and it certainly can be a standslone ring rather than a set.

And if you got something with the wide reach of that bezel setting, you could have laser engraving on it, if you wanted something with a bit more detail...

Hi!

I did just this--I took my original 2 rings (ering & matching band) and had them reset into one. My center stone is about 1 ct with 16 8 pointers....here it is.

I worked with my jeweler--you can design anyting you want, really. I have a jeweler who knows me very well and knew just where to lead me...we had a bunch of different settings out on the table and he made a combination of three I really liked. A little bit of this, a touch of that

It's not only doable but I think you could get a great and creative result! keep us posted! And post your ring when you get it!

Wonderful suggestions, thank you all for taking the time to post your ideas, links, pictures! I always thought this would involve working with a jeweler on a custom piece, but your suggestions have given me ideas that I wasn't able to come up with on my own. Now I feel much better prepared to talk seriously with a jeweler about this!
