What are they worst inclusions a diamond could have? I''m thinking about purchasing a diamond - SI1, but one of the inclusions is a feather near the girdle.
I was looking for around the same clarity. Flawless and vvs very nice etc, but I wasn't too hung up about the purity thing as long as the inclusions are invisible - it meant I could buy a bigger diamond!
I think inclusions can go down to I3, which one of the gurus on this site described as "crushed rock quartz". Mind you, the guy who bought one example said his now fiancee loved it!
SI1 means slight inclusions near the girdle, which means even if they were slightly visible you might be able to hide it under a prong or other mounting. SI2 would be nearer the centre of the rock under the table, so theoretically easier to see.
Best bet - have a look at it to make sure it's 'eye clean', then go for your life!
Not all SI2 diamonds will have eye-visible inclusions under the table. I have one. Mine has a few small pinpoints (white) under the table (not visible without a loupe) and one feather near the girdle which is now hidden under a prong. I could see the feather before it was set but only because I knew it was there and had already studied the stone under high magnification.
If you are considering an SI1 or SI2, it would be best if you could check it out in person. These diamonds could be a good value if you are trying to get a larger carat weight and/or higher color on a budget.
Hope this helps.
