Inclusion Question on SI2-I1 OEC

Not today I don’t! The prednisone gave me little hobbit hands right now :D I wish I had long fingers like you <3

 Hey now, hobbit right here...

This is beautiful! Did you also have a feather near the girdle? This has turned out to be very educational because I never put much thought into the setting and the pressure it puts on the stone. Especially useful as I’ve become more enamored with older cuts.

No no feathers. Just wanted to show you an example of DK’s similar ring.

I think your inspo three stone belongs to @yennyfire

Bezels are made by literally manually pressing the metal down over the edge of the diamond. Once set it’s fine, but the process of setting requires a lot of pressure. Colored gems get damaged all the time setting into bezels. Covering a large feather could pose an issue for a bezel. But maybe not! You have to talk to DK and decide how much risk you will accept. I would not bezel it or any other stone after a gem was cracked during bezel setting once.

Yeah, I think the plan is to siting to see what David says and then design around it. Although I really hope he says it’s all good so I can do a 3 stone. I’ve had my heart set on one for awhile and considered doing one with the stone I used for Aurelia before I went down the octagonal halo direction.

Yes, that was mine a decade or so ago, but I sold her to fund Bertie. Hoping she’s worn lovingly by her new owner!

I curious if setting the diamond down into a psuedo bezel frame, stone resting on the frame, then pressing prongs over it is similarly risky.

I’d think prongs that are pressed down over the stone are less risky than a full bezel or prongs in a basket. But I could be wrong. DK will know.

No prongs don’t require nearly the same pressure to apply and they are only at 4/6 points not all around. But of course DK will know what is safe. Either way I’d ask what happens if the stone is damaged further during setting re:liability so you are in the same page.
