This is beautiful! Did you also have a feather near the girdle? This has turned out to be very educational because I never put much thought into the setting and the pressure it puts on the stone. Especially useful as I’ve become more enamored with older cuts.

Bezels are made by literally manually pressing the metal down over the edge of the diamond. Once set it’s fine, but the process of setting requires a lot of pressure. Colored gems get damaged all the time setting into bezels. Covering a large feather could pose an issue for a bezel. But maybe not! You have to talk to DK and decide how much risk you will accept. I would not bezel it or any other stone after a gem was cracked during bezel setting once.

I curious if setting the diamond down into a psuedo bezel frame, stone resting on the frame, then pressing prongs over it is similarly risky.
I’d think prongs that are pressed down over the stone are less risky than a full bezel or prongs in a basket. But I could be wrong. DK will know.
