In your opinion, which cut has the most sparkle factor?

So i''ve decided on the setting (Tacori 2620 with a plain band). Now I just need to decide on the shape of the rock.

Initially I was drawn towards a cushion cut, I just thought it looked gorgeous and very vintage... but is this a phase? At the moment I am really into vintage things, I''m worried I won''t like it after a while.

I then considered an Asscher cut, they look great, but again I realised I want something sparkly

Round - classic, very sparkly, initially definetley did not want a round, wanted something different, but am now drawn to it due to sparkle factor and it''s pretty timeless.

Jubilee - again very sparkly, but don''t see anything within my budget on GOG and don''t know if I will as my budget is pretty tight

Octavia - do you think an octavia would look good in a Tacori 2620?

I don''t really like princess cuts, i find the squareness too harsh and i want something softer.

I am drawn towards softer shaped stones...

I''m so confused!

Your advice is appreciated.

Hi Mani,

It seems to me that your hearts desire is the Octavia or Jubilee, so thats what I would aim for. Take your time so you get it right, I know it is confusing with all the options available but follow your heart and you won''t go wrong!

What is your budget, because if that one jubilee was on the edge of your budget then the Octavia will definitely be out. Have you seen this Octagon?

There is a nice video there that shows a princess of hearts, modern and vintage cushions side by side.

I totally understand not knowing which stone to pick. I had that issue and to satisfy my desire for now, we have a vintage RB in a square head for me to wear. Personally I really dislike large modern RBs so this was a good compromise for me. I like squarish shapes but not the way some look cut. Some day I will decide what stone I want and hopefully get my ultimate dream ring. For now I am happy

Thanks Lorelei, as you know, I love the Octavia, but i''m not sure how it would look in the Tacori setting! I''m sure it would look amazing!

I''m torn between an Octavia (Rhino said there are more being cut), Jubilee, or a round...or even a cushion! (not keen on chunky ones though).

Part of me thinks that if I get a round i''d be able to get a really good one within by budget as opposed to the others.............

Okay, you can see how confused I am by how i''ve written that sentence, what I meant to say is, I *think* an Octavia would look good in this setting, but i''m not sure...!

I would go with a round if you are looking for more sparkly. Try to find a round with a really good cut. Cut is an important factor if you are looking for fire and briliiance. I hope that helps with your decision. Good luck!!!

By the way, can I just say, WOW. That octagon is amazing and i think would look nice in the setting.

My budget is about $3000 but it depends on what the setting costs as well. Altogether I''d say my budget is $8000.

clgwli - I think we may have similar tastes then, I don''t really like round settings but I like the cut of a round stone, so this Tacori setting is nice because it makes the stone look quite like a cushion.

Wait - why would you spend 3k on the stone and 5k on the setting? With an 8K budget - I would focus most of that on the stone, not a "name brand" setting. Just my opinion! You can have a ring made to match the tacori version you are looking for and put more $$ towards the rock! I think most women would agree they want the majority of the budget spent on the diamond itself...at least all my friends would!

WF can easily make this for you with a plain band - or just email them the design you like and ask them to make it for you:
ring

I think the octagon is only with 30 days guarantee, so probably not upgradable. You can ask GOG to confirm.

I also ditto waterlily in thinking that you should put all of your budget to the diamond, but I think you should set it into a temp setting and then get the Tacori later if that is the setting you want! You may change your mind after living with your diamond for a while. It just seems a pity to spend so much on the setting and then to be left feeling crunched for the diamod, which is the star of the show.

Have you seen the Square Cushion Hearts and Arrows diamonds that GOG has? You need to call them about the prices for some reason. In videos the perform optically *just* like a round but they are shaped like a square cushion. This would be my choice.

Oops i missed that earlier or I wouldn''t have posted that one. I just liked the shape and the video on that page.

Manisha, I do think we might have similar tastes. I remember that even some of the settings we liked were the same in other threads. So I totally get how hard it is. We decided to get me the ring I currently have, redo our kitchen and then revisit this for maybe our next big anniversary. I was torn between an asscher, several different types of cushions and then finally some "designer" cuts from Christopher Designs. In short I had no clue what I was after. I also love the Octavia, but the budget isn''t there for us.

However if your budget is $8K total, I thought I was quoted the same Tacori for much less than $5K. I didn''t do platinum though since I was matching to an anniversary band I wear that is 14K wg. If that is the setting you want, find out for sure how much it costs. And I totally agree with others, look around and you will find similar settings for less. I personally tried on one at a local mall that was about $1K in WG. You might have way more for a diamond than you realize

I agree with you both. I have emailed WhiteFlash and will see what GOG say too. I''ve also emailed a few places in UK but am not really optimistic, they are too expensive.

Also just to add - the wedding band is added into the 8k budget!

I''ve seen the guinevere before and have to say I love it, I do prefer the knife edge of the Tacori though, would WF customise it for me by making it a knife edge as opposed to rounded? Plus I love the ornateness of the Tacori but I''m not majorly fussed if I can get a similar looking one for so much cheaper!!!! ;-)

OK i don''t think it''s actually called knife edge, thats something else... how confused am I? I hope you understand what I mean though, that the Tacori is straight and the WF one is very rounded!

I'm sure they'll do any band shape you'd like

You can email them a description, pictures, etc. get advice, ideas, etc. and get a quote. You can ask them to send you pictures of pieces they have done that are similar to that style too.

I would put most of your money towards the diamond (I''d get an ideal round if you want maximum sparkle). I''m sure whiteflash will work with you to come up with a setting that you like. Send them some pics and they''ll figure it out. If you post more pics of what you liek on here I''m sure you''ll get some feedback and descriptive terms too:-)

I''ve contacted both good old gold and white flash to obtain quotes, i told WF that I would like to use most of the budget on the stone but they have some great stones at affordable prices in the size that I would like anyway!

I love this! but as u can see the band is quite thick, i''d want a small 2mm band!

Yay! So glad you decided to contact them! You've got a great budget to get a stunner of a stone, I hated the thought of you using most of it towards the setting. I seriously would want my fiance to spend every penny possible on the diamond and just get a plain setting and band that can easily be changed on one of the many many anniversaries in the future!

W - that is a beautiful ring!! I actually love the thick band!

WF is great, but I would also contact BGD. It never hurts to have a couple of quotes. But fully custom will cost a LOT more than modifying a stock setting. They can make pretty much any shank shape for the Guinivere setting without adding much extra cost, a few hundred. To start from scratch with any company will add more.

Thats what i''m concerned about, I thought maybe if I modify the Guinevere (It does look very similar) it''d be cheaper than starting from scratch, just conforming that with WF now. I''ve contacted a few other vendors, and now BGD too. Thankyou!

I''d really like to work with GOG though - I don''t know why but I just like them

so i''m waiting to see what they say too. Who do GOG use for custom pieces?
