Hello PriceScopers,

I've been reading through the site and learning more than I would have thought about diamonds for my girlfriends engagement ring and I could really use your advice on the type of diamond I should buy for her. I've picked out several diamonds that I thought were pretty good and wanted to see what you guys thought or if you had better recommendations.

To get started I'm looking for a round diamond to go on a tension style wedding band which I was considering platinum if the budget allows. I know she likes the look of this http://konzukshop.com/product/kmr120dp so I'm trying to find her something similar and a bigger diamond since that one looks pretty tiny. My girlfriends ring size is between 7-8. Ideally I'm looking to keep the whole cost, diamond and band under $5,000. My budget is flexible but to be honest I think we would rather spend money buying a new car or paying more of our new house mortgage than dropping huge money on a ring. Looking at the 3 options I'm leaning towards #3 even though it's a little bit smaller it seems like the scope and hearts are pretty clean or maybe #1? Is H still ok for colorless?

What would you guys suggest, here's what I found. :

Thank you in advance!

I will let more experienced PSers respond on the stones, but I would just note something about the sizing being that you mentioned she was a 7-8. Tension set rings are typically not sizeable without remaking - therefore it is important that you know your partner's exact ring size before ordering.

Happy hunting!

All of those are gorgeous diamonds, but I'd probably go with the first one since it is the largest.

Because of sizing issues, I would not go with a true tension setting. Most women have a change in ring size over their lifetimes and they are far too expensive to just remake every time the size changes.

Here are some settings that would be similar in style but they would protect the diamond more and also be able to be sized. A woman will wear little larger size in a wide band ring, incidentally. You do need to know her size by having her try on a wide band not just one of the thin sizing rings.

HI:

I also like the first stone the best.

cheers--Sharon

Thank you very much for the advice! My girlfriend originally told me her ring size was 7 but on wide rings she was an 8. I had no idea tension bands couldn't be remade so that's really good to know well have to reconsider those.
