I can't comment on a name suggestion since I don't know her personality (though I do love the sentiment of Francie), but just wanted to share my love for tuxedo kitties (well, all kitties really).

She looks a lot like our Frank, one of three that allow us to share their space (the other two are half feral and not too agreeable to being photographed). He is about 15 (showed up at our door 11 years ago), had an eye removed a few years back (glaucoma) and is on daily meds for hear murmur and hyperthyroid, but he's still pretty spry.

Congrats on the adorable new addition and good luck picking a name!

Frank.jpg

Aww what a sweet boy. And he looks so much like our new kitty. I am so glad he is doing well and thank you for sharing his photos. Devastatingly handsome!:kiss2:

She's so perfect, right down to the white whiskers!

I like Cookie.

Thank you @doberman !

Awe! No input. Just what a perfectly cute kitty!!! I wish I could hug her!

Thank you @MeowMeow !

Lovely kitty and I voted for Francie.

DK :kiss2:

Thanks @dk168 !

Trixie but short for Beatrix like the Princess, the former Queen of the Netherlands- because all cats are princess and princes
Also shorted to Trix and it sounded like Tinx

Thank you @Daisys and Diamonds !

'Meow' from my Oreo to your Cookie!
I like Francie and the meaning behind it!

Aww I love Oreo. He is such a handsome baby. :kiss2:

I immediately thought Tricksy when you listed Trixie. But if she's sweet and not a naughty troublemaker, I still like Cookie the best of the options listed. I like Francie, too, but Cookie better. What's the story behind the name Francie that I'm apparently missing?

Thanks @voce ! Yes the meaning behind it is we lost our heart kitty Francesca in June (LCL and she was only 10) and then just 2 months ago Fred (our senior kitty at 17) and it has been a very hard 12 months for us to say the least as last March lots of challenges started for us. But I digress. I was thinking perhaps choosing a name with the letter F would be a way to honor both Francesca and Fred. But it is not a requirement and we just want to find the name that suits her best. Thanks so much for your input!

'Francie' is more title than name among your cats, as you write... Is the newcommer worthy? (only half joking)

LOL only time will tell. But as you know we feel all animals are worthy even the challenging ones (yes I am talking to you Oliver!!!) so that isn't a concern. Not sure what name is best for her yet but I am enjoying hearing others thoughts about it.

Will you always feel bittersweet though if you call her Francie?

I don't think so...I miss both Francesca and Fred more than words can say. I am still crying my eyes out over both of them daily (more than daily actually) but the name Francie doesn't make me feel sad or anything like that.

She’s beautiful. What a sweetie!

Thank you @caf !

She’s gorgeous - I love tuxedo cats! No help on the name sorry, maybe something that’s not quite so reminiscent of your beloved Francesca might be less bittersweet?

Thank you @foxinsox! IDK...right now I don't feel it bittersweet calling her Francie but we haven't yet decided on her final name (if she does indeed become ours).

Ditto! Trixie gets my vote

Thank you @jaysonsmom

Well hello there beautiful

In my household pets' official names don't matter all that much because they invariably wind up with pet names (heh) that have nothing to do with what their vet records say ::) I don't know if you and Greg are that way too @missy!

Haha yes we are exactly that way. We always called Francesca HRH and then some and we call Tommy the mocha leopard and we call Bobby the snow leopard and we call Oliver many different nicknames. Toasted almond or marshmallow, Chili Pepper, Hot Tamale, Lord of the Ringworm ( ) etc. And Fred was our cow kitty or Frederick J cat. Our beloved sweet cow kitty. So yeah we have many names for all of them. I guess we are all a little cuckoo.:lol-2:

HI:

Francee cuz its has meaning.

But "Sugar" (in any language) informally, because she is ALL sweetness and b/c she dipped her whiskers and feet in confectioners sugar! As @yssie suggests, pet names are inevitable.

cheers--Sharon

Aww you are so right. She is sweet like Sugar. I love the image of the confectioners sugar. Sweet. Thanks @canuk-gal

what a cutie pie :kiss2: i love the sentiment behind "francie"...fancy francie in her tux

Thank you @bludiva ! Haha I love that! Fancy Francie in her tux. :appl:

She looks like Timothy- the cat who had the kittens under our grape vine last year
...its probably best i have no part in this naming :mrgreen2:
But i like Trixie because i read Trixie Baldon growing up and also there is a nurse in call the midwife called Trixie
Tibby took forever to get a name- we just caller him The Tabby because we were going to take him to the SPCA once he got friendly
Tinky came with his name and Borris ...well we thought she was a boy too :mrgreen2:
Im amazed how your feline family tolerate new members
My friend who has horses, always changes their name just slightly so they still regonise it but enough of a change to signify a new life

I called Timothy that because of the similarity to a naval dress uniform so after Princess Ann's husband Sir Timothy Lawrence :lol-2:

Good luck little cookie :kiss2:

Thank you @Daisys and Diamonds. I hope it works out and she does become a part of our family. We are slowly introducing her to the others. Bobby just hissed at her but Tommy is cool. Oliver is the real wild card here and the whole reason we are thinking of adopting yet another!

She’s beautiful and resembles Francesca so I voted Francie (or spell it Francee, and I think you’ll know why  )
I am so happy for you all and wish you the very best and much love with your new family member. ♥

Thanks @Slick1. Thank you so much for all your good wishes and warm thoughts. I don't think she looks like Francesca really and that is why I was OK with considering adopting her. I didn't want a cat that looked like either Fred or Francesca. Yes she is black and white like Fred but the pattern is completely different and her face is entirely different too plus her eye color etc. So to us she looks nothing like either of them. I appreciate your input and haha Francee spelled with 2 Es. It suits my very dear friend (wink wink) very well! Hugs!

@missy - she is so adorable! Look at that little face just gazing up at you :kiss2: . She actually looks like a Cookie to me - soft and sweet.

Thank you @Poodles4me ! She really is precious.

My parents years ago had her twin, her name was Bockee, short for Reebok because of the white socks and shoes!!!

Aww love that. Adorable names. Any photos?

Trixie but short for Beatrix like the Princess, the former Queen of the Netherlands- because all cats are princess and princes
Also shorted to Trix and it sounded like Tinx

I love Beatrix because my grandmother's name was Beatrice. So very sentimental to me. A great name either way!

Haha I wrote to Tara the head of the rescue group that we didn't realize Cookie had super powers.

Judging by the shape of her face, she looks like she may have some oriental blood line in her.

Cute kitty!

A couple more taken just this moment.

Thanks @dk168. She is not a scaredy cat so far so that is good. Holding her own (right now) with Oliver who has been ruling the roost since his arrival. Oliver has been mercilessly chasing Tommy and Bobby...hoping this little kitty will teach Oliver a few manners. Fingers crossed!

I’m partial to Cookie ;)2

Ooh, I didn't make the connection between Francie and Francesca. I think shortening it to Fran would be more reminiscent of Francesca and Fred, but the way there's a "cie" at the end makes me think "fancy", which Francie rhymes with.

Anyway, adorable kitty! Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Thank you @voce ! That is exactly our thinking too. I love the name Francie but not a fan of Fran but that could just be because I had an Aunt Fran. I loved her so nothing against her but I didn’t love the name. Anyway thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your warm support. I really appreciate it. It’s been a tough 12 months and if we could adopt Francie and give her a loving home and also make life better for Oliver it would be a win win. We just have to see how it goes. So far they aren’t really interacting and she’s under our bed. To be expected since it is just day 2 and she also has a very tough beginning before we came into the picture. Really hope we can make this work for all the cats.

Okay, this tips the scale for me. I'm going to try to change my vote to Francie. At first the association I drew from it was France ;).

I'm in love.. Cookie! what a beauty... love love...

Congratulations Missy!! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an easy transition. Such a sweet cutie!!

Oh Missy, what a wonderful thread to keep our minds off of the virus!!

She is a doll--so regal looking. & I love the name Francie. I don't like Cookie or Trixie as much, but Francie as a name imparts a personality to her that I much prefer over the other 2 options. I sure do hope she & Oliver can bond & become great friends.

I've sort of dropped off the map here for a couple of weeks, but am back in the saddle. See you over at NIRDI as soon as I catch up! I hope everyone is doing well by you! XOXO

Missy!

Francie was clearly the frontrunner for me - until I saw the middle photo above. Then it became clear she has Fiona in her. It just seems like she is a Francie Fiona all the way. Just think of it: when she sleeps in your fine china, or shreds her 18th roll of tp, getting to use your Stern Mom voice and call "Francie Fiona!" What self-respecting cat would not be all :oops2::cry2: and full of remorse? :lol-2:

Plus, isn't that a great name for a cat with superpowers?

Sooooo elegant! & poised ,) at least in your pictures.

Haha I wrote to Tara the head of the rescue group that we didn't realize Cookie had super powers.

That looks super friendly- Tibby would never get that close to Borris
I must say i love the Sophie - i had a great aunty Soph (my grandma died long before i was born)
And also i adore Sophie the Countess of Wessex, the Queen's youngest DIL

I must say Francie sounds very Brooklyn (or Jersey). to me :mrgreen2:

Bringing Francie/Gracie to the veterinarian (my sister) this morning...still haven't for sure decided on her name but right now these are our two top choices.

Driving to Veterinarian and this thought just hit us.

Gracie Frances ❤️

Hmmm. Maybe,,,

I’m a little late to this thread but I thought I’d pop in with a couple ideas.

Callie
Gabbie
Daisie (or Daisy)
Lacey
Macie
Maisie
Persephone (what can I say? I have a thing for Greek mythology. She brings Spring and fresh life...it felt apt).

I like Gracie too btw.

And she’s a total beauty!

Thank you @elle_71125 ! She’s officially Gracie Frances. So we can call her Gracie or Francie if we want. Love your suggestions too! My first choice was actually Penelope but Greg vetoed that name lol. It is a mouthful but oh so pretty.

Anyway, Gracie it is. ❤️
Thanks to all who weighed in.

So Gracie isn’t as young as we thought. She’s between one and two years old based on her teeth. And she has a lot of gingivitis so we have to be vigilant about cleaning her teeth twice a week. She’s a real sweetheart though. A good girl.

Speaking of sweethearts. Tommy is an angel.

On way back home now.
