If you are looking at a stone that is a little larger, say 2.75 - 3.0 ct, what is more important for the money COLOR or CLARITY? This is assuming that the cut is ideal.
Assuming that the clarity of the diamond is "eye clean" SI-1 and higher, then color should be your focal point above clarity because you will see the differences in color without magnification.
If you want to be safe, go w/VS 2 - SI 1 or higher clarity and H+ color. Many SI 2s of about 3Cts are not eye clean. If you choose an EGL certified diamond, definitely go w/VS 2 or higher.
