If you had a budget of 7 - 9 grand for a round brilliant stone what would you choose?

I''m just getting worn out deciding between VS2 and SI1 and should I get H or G color or heck even I to get a bigger stone. I know I want to go Hearts and Arrows/AGS0/Excellent GIA cut to get the nicest looking diamond, but of course I want big!

So what would you choose!? the budget is a little flexible

Thanks!!

I would choose verified eyeclean SI1 clarity of H or I colour personally of top cut quality.

Bigger always seems better until you get the I colored stone in the wrong lighting and it looks yellow! I bought an I colored RB last year and in the store of course it looked good until I was wearing it around the house. I wanted to cry about the yellow in the stone so I sacrificed it for a G and was more happy with that. I do like warmer colored stones and also love browns, but if you are buying an ering for your lady and she wants it white, I have heard numerous ladies shopping at many diamond stores and they turn their noses up at erings that show color. Many say that a well cut one will look whiter than they should face up, but I believe they will show the color from an angle. Good luck.

Depends on the grading and cut quality, an I colour won't look in any way yellow but it can show more warmth if the stone isn't well cut, cut is everything to beauty and performance. Also any warmth from the side view is extremely faint that many people can't detect it in person with these colour grades so I colour can make a fine choice for those on a budget.

svo if you are unsure go and look at some I colour in person, try Jareds to view their AGS0 Peerless of similar size and I colour.

Svobodax,

Funny title. I think you're confused in the right way. Go see diamonds with these different characteristics...or forget about it, and go with your gut. Check as Lorelei says for being eye clean, but maybe something like this. Then again, WF has a 1.5 I ACA at just over $9, so you might want to go out and look at those after all...

Use this, too...

It is still a decision you have to make. Set down what is your priority first.

With your budget it would be hard to make the leap over 1.5ct and diamonds in the 1.3ct to 1.49ct range are rare, so really you are looking at somewhere in the a.25ct range. Since going lower in color won't get you bigger, then I would go with G-H SI1 in that range! Eye clean of course. ETA YOu can get into the 1.3 range if you drop to I color SI1.

I'd get something like these:

or this at www.brianthecutter.com AGS-1040381680029 Brian Gavin H&A 1.227 G SI1 56.6 61.5 $7,643.00

Diamond colour is a thing of nuances, and everyone has a different tolerance.

I don't start seeing colour until H (if properly graded), and the difference between H and I was so minimal to me that I felt completely safe with an I.

I have darker skin, so even a J shines up wonderfully white. If I had very pale skin, on the other hand, a J might show some warmth when worn.

Well cut diamonds face up whiter than from the side, this is especially true for brilliant cuts. If you're planning on a setting that will hide a large portion of the pavilion view, going to a lower colour is even safer.

Some other things to consider.

Everyone is different about color and clarity. Do you know what her priorities are? Some women are willing to sacrifice a little for a larger stone, and some want a stone that is "well rounded."

I guess the questions you should ask are:

What is your definition of eye clean? Some people want it eye clean from all angles (which a VS stone is more likely to be) vs face up. When looking for a stone, make sure your definition of eye clean and the vendor''s match.

How much warmth can you tolerate? Most well cut stones will face up white, it is the side view that the warmth comes out. Probably the best way to figure this out is to see top cut stones in person (e.g. HOF stones).

After you figure out those things, you can figure out what size stone you can afford for your budget. Either way, you have a nice budget, and will be able to get a very nice diamond.

Thanks for all the help ladies and gents. I''m going to D Geller and Son in Atlanta - they are like the used car dealership of diamonds where they do high pressure sells for 10% less than any equivlent online deals. It doesn''t bother me when they want money down to tell me how great they are because I alway compare their prices to online.

they offered a
1.51 carat
7.38x7.41 x 4.54
H color
SI1 - eye clean
Crown Angle 35
pavilion 41
depth 43.5
girdle thin
no flour
no cutlet

a 2.2 on the Holloway advisor for 8,400 with a platnum tiffany 6 prong setting (which I want) - although I do have to pay 6 percent sales tax buying in state.

What do you guys think of that? It''s a nice looking rock but if you think i can get better for the money tell me!!

For sure an "I", I even went SI2, there are some great SI2''s out there if you are patient. I went from an "H" GIA excellent to an "I" GIA hearts/arrows and all I see is white. Cut makes all the difference. Although, I will admit I never saw color in my H stone either.....

a nice well cut G SI1.

What is the table size and lower half number?

Which lab grade the stone? That also affects pricing of the stone.
