I''m an auditor. Originally, with previous management, this position was meant to be about 1.5 to 2 years before rotating into another department/area of finance. They encouraged rotation a lot.
When management switched, we got a new director that is a career auditor (in that she has been in audit "all of her life") and a senior director that had previously been in accounting for 25 years changing titles but not roles. Both had a different mindset than previous managers and they both felt that in order to get effective and good audits, the auditors should be ''seasoned'' so they are trying everything possible to get us to stay. Just recently I received a significant bump in my salary to make sure that I''m getting as much as I would if I were to leave the company and go somewhere else (because 9 out of 10 times it takes leaving and starting somewhere else to see a significant bump).
Anyway, I love auditing and its my calling. The problem though is that I feel like maybe I''m holding myself back by not getting more experience. The one thing that gets people from a Sr. position to management is experience and so far all I have is auditing under my belt. I''m thinking that maybe I''ll do better in the long run by switching over to other departments and really getting finance as a whole on my resume.
At the same time, they don''t want me to leave and I don''t like any of the other areas here. I''ve been here the longest and we didn''t kick off full audits until I joined so I know a lot about previous audits. For example, today I was pulled into a meeting with my Director and the CFO to discuss an audit performed back in 2005 that I wasn''t even apart of but I knew about it. I also know a lot about the flaws in all the other departments and I''m not sure I want to be part of those teams.
Guess I''m just looking for advice on what you guys think would be best in your opinion.
