My first post, hope I'm in the right section...

I'm a groom-to-be and am looking to learn up on all manners of bridal jewelry to help me and my fiance' find the right rings. Yes, we're already engaged thanks to my somewhat backwards capitalization of a vacation opportunity as a vehicle to make for a special proposal despite not having a "real" ring yet.

We've looked in dozens of stores, at probably a thousand or so rings in several states and a foreign country. It seems we're going to be needing a custom design, but are not wanting to have to sell our body organs to pay a custom piece price. Certainly, reducing the expenditure cost has tons of variables, but maybe we can get some advice on how to do that and still get a quality piece made to fit.

If anyone has any "Newbie" FAQs or "Must Reads", please do link me! I look forward to learning and eventually giving something amazing to my girl.

Hello and welcome dgoldstein!

You've come to the right place! There is lots of information under the Knowledge pulldown menu...

https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/

But we really need more info and what kind of stone(s) you are looking at and the design for the setting before we
can point you in any direction. Budget will also help (since you dont want to sell the organs...cant blame you on that one!)

So, please give us some more details on what you and your fiance are looking to do and we'll see how we can help.

Congratulations on your engagement!

Thanks for the welcome tyty.

We've been highly attracted to octagonal designs where there is a center diamond with a surround of smaller stones (colored or colorless), usually baguettes on a low profile setting with a neo-vintage or uncluttered band. Center diamond sizes roughly in the .6-.8ct range with no perceivable discoloration (color: D-J).

Wow...that first one is very unusual! Have you seen Octavias? These diamonds were designed by a PS member and have very
nice light return. Darn, I just looked and the only one in stock right now is a 1.57 but here it is so you can take a look.

Do you like step-cut stones or brilliant type stones?

You might consider a regular asscher also.
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4169/ unfortunatly they dont have any smaller stones at GOG.
Only found 1 at JA in your size (and I dont like the cut on it).

Are there any other shapes of stones that you are interested in?

Edit - I'm going to point you to some octagon shaped settings... Bev K are very nice quality. I'm not really sure what your
budget is.

tyty, thank you for all of the helpful information!

We're relatively open to center stone cut.

I believe it's very important that the first step be to determine which shape of stone and which cut of stone she loves. Look at examples on here and then try to see them in person.

There are thousands of PSers rings here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-forum-engagement-ring-folder-eye-candy.5429/ that provide ideas for center stones, sides, & settings.
