Hey there!

My name is Bella and I'm 21 years old. My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting engaged in a couple months, and my mother has mentioned that I can use her old bridal set (she upgraded a little over 10 years ago to a beautiful almost 2 carat Princess Cut) as my engagement ring.

It's very dated, but the diamonds are good. It's a ~.75 carat Marquise diamond center with close to a full carat in baguettes. I am going to pass it onto my boyfriend to get it set into something that is more my style.

I can't even tell you how excited I am!

I don't have any photos of it now. I haven't seen it since I was 11 or 12, but I know it's yellow gold and a zigzag band with an enhancer?

Similar to this maybe, but maybe a little different?

I'm hoping to use some of the baguettes make this ring (I know it won't be as fancy!)
I know the halo ones are definitely custom-cut, but something modern and set east-west.

I also like this but I think french cut rings are super expensive.

What is the budget for the setting?

Here are some images. The baguette ring above is by Kwait. I like the yellow gold one below. It would look beautiful with a brightcut halo instead of that bezel, but with that same design on the side. The plain shank halo would be the most affordable and I'd use Brilliantly Engaged for that design.

Have you tried on east west rings?

I love them, but they look HIDEOUS on my hand.

How lovely that you will have heirloom components and very exciting that you engagement will hopefully happen soon.
Marquise designs are so versatile. I love the pictures you and Gypsy posted.

Oh I've seen that one before, and it's absolutely gorgeous!

I have seen an E-W ring on myself before!

It's a lapis lazuli stone, and pretty substantial, but I like the way it looks.

Thank you Ms. Poppins! They are versatile. My mom got engaged in 1989, so Marquise diamonds were very common. She sadly didn't like her ring, even when she received it, so I'm really excited to make it into something I'll like. It's nice because my mom isn't super attached to it. She said, "I don't care; he could even trade it in for a new ring!" but I'm so sentimental that it'll be nice to reuse what we already have. And I'm given creative freedom (some people get sad when their heirloom stones get put in new settings).

I'm also not sure. I know that my boyfriend has the money saved up, but he'd probably spend quite a bit if he needed to, but would prefer not to. I don't think he knows how much jewelry costs, but he and I are very practical people so having the diamonds for free will be a huge help.

How about a soli and the baguettes are used to make a wedding band?

I've seen that solitare before- Is it Erie Canal or something? I was considering baguettes to be the band.

I sent a few emails to my boyfriend...

My mom's ring is a .75 carat Marquise with around a carat of baguettes.

I really like this setting for a few reasons:

-It's timeless
-It's not dated
-It doesn't have a lot of prongs to catch on things.

I understand that the baguettes in my mom's ring aren't likely cut curved to work exactly, but I believe they could be set on the shank (the band). I also know that the diamond in the example is substantially larger.

In addition, I'd like a notch behind the ring to make a matching band fit underneath. A channel-set horizontal baguette band, if that's possible.
Again, my mom works with Wixon Jewelers in Bloomington, MN.

I just reminded him that if the baguettes don't work, I sent him the Vintage Tiffany one and said that it would be an alternative if the baguettes are too tricky and round stones would be easier.

I'm giving him some freedom! I'll post photos of the set as it is currently sometime this week. I pick it up on Wednesday!

I have a preview of the ring!

My mom is also throwing in an old ring she has... she got the large diamond as a solitare pendant from an ex and made it into a ring and she wants nothing to do with it.

Do you think the baguettes in the ring are all the same size?

Are the two smaller rounds the same size?

Think your fi would wear a diamond ring?

Alright- I got some photos! It's a little snug, but it seems to fit!

I'm really excited to see its transformation. My boyfriend said he'd take it from here!

No, it looks like the baguettes are different sizes, so those will be sold. I don't know if FI would wear diamond. I've asked if he wanted them, and he said he doesn't care and that he thought a tungsten ring that costs $20 would be fine. I told him they can't be resized and he said he'd just get another. I don't know; I'm super sentimental. I'll probably get a hammered white gold band or one with nice details. He is black and has a complexion that I have heard him say that he prefers the look of white gold or platinum.

My mom had them sitting in solution (I think just dish soap?) and I rinsed them off. I should have done more.
