Hi,
I'm just wondering how you all would rate the IGI in relation to grading. I'm looking to get a 5 stone 2ctw made, and my local jeweller uses diamonds graded by IGI.

Thanks!

They're not a scam lab like EGL and countless others, but they're sort of the McDonald's of gem grading, and the better stones are not usually sent there, although there are many exceptions.

For most people there is no reason to consider an IGI stone. GIA and AGS are less sloppy and also honest.

They are highly used in Europe and India huge market

You'll get what you pay for. IOW, no bargain.

Thanks everyone. The jeweller only sources his diamonds from a dealer with IGI I think. Is that certification to be avoided, or if the specs are good, would it be comparable to a GIA graded diamond?

Where are you located? IGI report from which part of the world? A diamond dealer shouldn't have any problem sourcing a GIA Ex,Ex,Ex graded stone.

IGI is fine. Just buy at a right price. It should be 15~20% cheaper than GIA

I'm in Ireland, and the dealer is London based. There are very few if any in Ireland.

His quote was in the middle of the US quote range even after adding on the taxes and duty owed.
