I did some research and they seem to be the 1st grading service but I would like to know what they''re grading is like...

Thanks!

Rusty

welcome to ps rusty!

what do you mean by ''they seem to be the 1st grading service''?

I read on their site that they were the 1st grading service...

I am very interested in their certification compared to the more "accepted" firms.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Well...I can''t say much, but first does in no way mean best!!!

Unless you really know what you''re doing, I would stick with GIA and AGS.

I understand what you''re saying.

I''d like feedback on this ICG company though.

I dont know much, but it looks pretty good.

its unlikely that they''d be any better or worse than other leading graders.

The only thing I could dig up on them was this comment from Garry H:

Sounds like they are likely to be "soft" like any of the other substandard grading companies. Garry knows a LOT so I would trust his judgement.

You could always call an appraiser and ask their opinion too. Maybe one will chime in here...

I''ve seen that post.

Thanks for your help. if anyone has anymore info, I''d love to hear it.

Thanks again to all,

Garry commented on them almost three years ago!!!!

I have never even heard about this Lab....!!!

Not the most well-known lab. They have locations in Israel, India and Russia. Here is info: http://www.igc-gem.com/

Someone who has seen diamonds they've recently graded might speak to the strictness or softness of their color and clarity grading compared to GIA standards. Garry thought they were soft some years ago. They provide major proportions on their "Full Diamond Report." One report format includes a cut grade using GIA's system: http://www.igc-gem.com/images/cert0005.jpg

In their website they mention a IGC crew..., but I cant seem to ID them...
Do you know of anyone on this crew? A name?

I''d trust the advice from Garry and Johb here that show evidence that the lab is probably a little softer than AGS or GIA. For example, EGL can be one to two grades softer in color or clarity relative to GIA or AGS. Sometimes it''s a value and other times the money you are saving is not true savings since you are not getting what you paid for.
