Would you choose this, from White Flash? http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/3-stone-diamond-engagement-ring_661.htm

Or this, from Brian Gavin Diamonds? http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/home/ring-details/?product_id=5448

The one from BGD is about $400 more, and has a slightly different look than the WF. I would be putting a 1.2 center with .30 sides (the WF ring is actually those proportions) My finger size is a 5.25, and I like BLING! lol! Does anyone have any opinions about the actual quality of the rings, say who is the better vendor to purchase from? I would also be getting the center diamond from them, either an ACA or a BGD Signature. I''ve heard you can''t go wrong from either, but I''d like opinions too! TIA! :)

Hi JeBri,

Personally I prefer the BG setting, both are great but thats my favourite.

I would go with the WF setting; the slight difference in the BGD setting wouldn''t justify the higher price if I were the one buying.

I must admit I'm a little biased

. Although WF and BGD both have a stellar reputation here, I bought my first ACA's from WF but at Lesley's recommendation. I've since followed Lesley and Brian to BGD (in fact, have upgraded my ACA's for BGD H&A Sign stones, have just purchased a 3-stone trellis setting from them and will continue to do business with them). I find that Brian and Lesley really treat their customers with a lot of care and give you that personable service that you don't get anywhere else.

Those are two very different rings, you are not comparing apples to apples.

The comparable rings from each company are these:

These two are classic three stones where the diamonds are set at similar heights:

And these two are three stones were the center is set higher than the sides:

Althought the WF setting for the second type is priced including sides, I know that you can also get it with any sides you want, you will just pay a different price. I think the setting for number two is a comparable price to the BGD.

As for which vendor... I think it depends on who has the center stone you want to be honest. I think the quality of the finish on the settings coming out of BGD may be a little better, and the prong work, but you cannot go wrong either way.

going solely on looks, I like the BGD one better. It seems a little more unique, while the WF one looks a bit more like regular 3-stone rings. In fact, my Jeff Cooper E-ring looks very similar to the WF ring and many others I''ve seen.

I don''t see a whole lot of difference but my eye prefers the BG.

I see what you mean about them both being two different styles...does anyone have any idea where I could go to try on some different three stone styles? Is there a specific brand or B&M store that anyone recommends?

I really just want a ring that gives A LOT of finger coverage, and makes the center stone look great, and I''m not sure which style will be best for that. I''ve tried on a Scott Kay before (the crown setting I think) where the sides were waaay lower than the center, and I didn''t feel like that gave enough coverage, even though the center was a 1 carat and the sides were .25. Do you think the BGD would be similar to the Scott Kay ring? (sorry the SK website doesn''t let me link).

I actually had a hard time finding a setting like the second style, where the sides are tucked in but finally found one at Spence diamonds, which is a Canadian company. I don't know where you could try them on in the US. The first style is very common and it like the type at Tiffany, although they have bigger side stones. I think the difference in finger coverage width wise is only a few mm difference. To me the difference is not so much about finger coverage as it is about the overall look of the ring. With the first style, you see three distinct round diamonds and each has a similar prominence. Lots of E-W finger coverage. I do think the center stands out less. In the second style, because the sides have three prongs and are sort of tucked in under the center, they look more like pears or hanlf moons, and the center really stands out. To me, when I tried on a ring like the second, because there was ring/finger showing on either side of the diamonds it made the whole cluster of diamonds look BIGGER. Like it was one big diamond. Sort of how a halo works. The three one next to each other looked like three diamonds in a row.

Have you been to Jareds and other places that have lots of stock settings?
