If you were spending 10-20K, show me what sapphire it would be please! I am thinking over a purchase, gem vs diamond.

Thanks Vapidlapid. Some very good choices. I wonder how that Pad is priced? It looks close to the one Whiteflash has in the custom LM ring.

Roger Dery just posted this one on his FB page it's 3.56ct ~ 10.0 x 7.7 x 5.7mm heat only, with AGL report. It's gorgeous to my novice eyes.

If it were any shape other than a pear, I'd probably agree, but in this case, I think it's the perfect size. A few years ago I printed one of these charts:

http://www.thenaturalsapphirecompany.com/nscnet/pdf/stone mm dimensions.pdf

onto a transparency with a laser printer. When I want to see how big a particular size and shape of stone would look, I hold it that transparency over my finger. Believe me, this stone would rock--so to speak.

If you'd like to buy it for me, I can demonstrate... ;))

Thanks Aoife! Sure you would.
I have the Mahenge in a pear at 3.67ct with the halo. With it's ratio, it is a little long for my short stubby fingers.

I had forgotten your beautiful Mahenge pear ring. I don't blame you for not wanting to repeat another large pear colored gemstone ring. Do you have any preferences on shape?

Oval or cushion but I would not rule out a rectangular. You just don't get the face up size with cuts like EC.

There's *something* about this antique cushion on Roger Dery's site - if I was going for a sapphire, I'd check this one out further...

I agree and actually came very close to buying it last year.

Just out of curiosity was the cushion posted above in that range of 10k+? I have no idea on prices and while I've admired that stone I haven't inquired about the price.

You have a great budget! I can't wait to see what you come up with.

No idea on the price, but if it were in that range this ring!

If you are speaking of the rasberry sapphire, yes it is.

with that budget i'd be at pala's doorstep.......

Oh, the raspberry sapphire, I say hello to that every time I float through Roger's site. Yummmmm. Never asked the price because if it's over about $250 :D it's beyond my budget at the moment. Please buy it, Bright Ice, take me out of my misery!

I'd go for an untreated Burmese ruby but I can't even find one at the moment. :errrr:

It is a very sad day when $20k wont buy a beautiful 3 carat sapphire

Right now is the worst time to buy fine sapphires due to the Prince and his Kate.

hi,

I agree with VL and MZ. Pala is the place to go. Personally, at least from the photos, Roger Dery'sapphire doesnt compare to Palas.
Look at those blue colors.

Well, There's always Nomads

http://gemsbynomads.com/

but I would expect them to be the same cost or higher than Pala.

Then too, if I were considering buying a $20k sapphire at an artificially high height of it's market, I would likely advise myself of the wisdom of buying something like a truly extraordinary spinel. E-windowshopping at Pala is like shooting fish in a barrel, but they have some of the tastiest fish in that barrel!

I would have an artist goldsmith design a magnificent setting for any of these:

i'd down size the carats to have a very very very fine sapphire from pala.........even if $10-$20K only got me a 1 carat.......

Not me, a one carat sapphire is going to look small, really small, due to the density of corundum. I just couldn't see myself paying $20K for something that small, unless it was a nice fcd. To each his/her own though.

I personally rather have something a little larger, although not optimal color, but beautiful color nonetheless.

The very first link to Pala that VapidLapid posted, the 3.52ct... my heart skipped a beat. Wow. So glad it's a million years out of my price range.

How long do you think it will take for the sapphire hype to cool off? Will prices ever come down? It seems like besides the royal wedding, the growing markets in the East are making sapphires more expensive and harder to come by... at least that has been my understanding. I do hope that someday there will be something like a price drop, but I probably won't hold my breath. Maybe just save up money ;)

Sorry if this is something of a threadjack. Good luck in your search, bright ice!
