If you were buying your first right hand ring....

Hello! I'd appreciate a little help with finding my first "big girl" piece of jewelry. My birthday is coming up in September and this past year has been a big year for me. I finished my residency, started a great job, started plans for my dream home and most importantly passed my board examinations, so I'm officially a Board Certified Physician (i.e., 200,000+ in student loans and 20 + years of schooling and being a giant nerd has paid off!). So to celebrate, I've decided that I'm buying myself a birthday gift in the form of my first nice piece of jewelry. Yay!

I was originally thinking of diamond stud earrings but I decided that I wanted a right hand ring. Something fun and pretty that I can wear every day. I have looked at so many different things that I have completely confused myself and have no idea what I want. So I'm hoping that maybe you all can throw out some ideas and help me out! I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

The basic guidelines (but honestly I'm open to just about anything):

- White gold

- Budget of around $2,000 (is this adequate?)

- I was thinking diamond or sapphire or both but again I'm open to suggestions

- Low profile as I use my hands a lot and wear gloves at work

So if you were buying your first right hand ring, what would it be?!? Thanks for your suggestions!!!

I like the bezel set diamond and sapphire BGD RHR that katiedid has in the preloved section. It's low profile and seems comfortable for everyday wear. Or something with a 5 stone trellis style, diamond and sapphire.

First of all, congratulations on your accomplishment!

I would do one of the following:

Either get 2-3 stacking bands like these:

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=53_137&products_id=10883

OR

I would get something more 'organic' like this:

Have you worn rings on your right hand before? I recommend trying it out if you haven't. I bought a RHR last year and have only worn it once or twice on my right hand--it's just too uncomfortable to wear anything on my dominant hand. Happy shopping!

Oh yea sorry! Haha I am at work and just did a quick post! Congrats on your new achievement!!! DR. Anners11!

Congratulations anners11! :appl:

If you feel comfortable sharing, I'd like to ask you what your specialty is, because if you are going to be interacting with patients, I would get something prong less and low profile. Even if you do not do alot of hands-on, you will need something that can stand up to a good clean every day because you will not want to chance a nasty MRSA or VRE coming along for the ride and infecting an immunocompromised patient or someone at home. :((

I have a wish list of right hand rings that is as long as my arm!

Thanks everyone! It's been a long road but totally worth it!

hmr_mama - Yes I have worn a ring on my right hand. I have a small oval sapphire that my mother bought me for my 13th birthday ages ago that I wear fairly often. I don't wear it at work though because the band is pretty thin and I"ve already bent it badly once. I'm kind of weird in that I wear my watch on my right wrist and so wearing rings on my right hand doesn't seem to bother me much. I do like the idea of stacking rings, so that's something to think about.

YayTacori - I had actually just seen the BGD bezel ring today. I think I'm looking for something a little more unique. But that is a gorgeous ring.

JaneSmith - I am in emergency medicine, so lots of patient contact. I do want to wear this to work so I'm definitely thinking something prong less and low profile. Probably an eternity band of some kind. And I try not to think about the MRSA and VRE exposure I have every day otherwise I need to go through a decon process before going home!

I just saw a really pretty sapphire band on JBEGs website. I think it's the front runner at this point.

What do you guys think?

On a side note, I went to my favorite antique store that has a good selection of jewelry to look around. They just got in a 2.62 K SI1 OEC solitaire. I couldn't resist and tried it on. OH MY! I've never been so wowed by something before in my life. I had planned on a cushion for my engagement ring but now, I don't know. I may need an OEC. It was just the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Just wanted to share because I know you all understand :naughty:

Congrats on all your achievements Dr. Anners!!!! That JbEG sapphire eternity is absolutely gorgeous! I haven't seen that style ring with 3 graduated rounds in the marquise bezel section...love it!!!!! Good luck with your decision, I was also gonna suggest maybe an eternity with sapphire E/W emeralds alternating with diamond rounds? I don't know of a stock style off hand but I'm sure one of the veterans can suggest somewhere to find it :D

Personally, I think all that accomplishment deserves something bolder than a dainty eternity ring! I'd consider one of the vintage rings at JBEG - like the bezel-set 3-stone on this page:

http://www.jewelsbyericagrace.com/antique_vintage_and_reproduction_rings

(there's another nice 3-stone on the following page), or one of the modern ose-cut bezel rings on the same page.

Or maybe a classic sapphire-with-diamonds ring:

http://www.rubylane.com/item/490404-ADPlatBezelSaph/Refined-Early-ART-DECO-Platinum

out of your price range, but...

ETA - oops - you specified white gold. Maybe JBEG would get this one polished - if you like this style?

I love the JBEG ring. The style reminds me of the Beverley K stacking rings. I just saw this one http://www.erictrabert.com/index.php?page=item&style=AB278 in person and it's gorgeous.

Another idea is the TR5069 http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=53_137&products_id=10850 alternating round/baguette eternity ring from ID Jewelry that a lot us have and that HMR_Mama linked to. Yekutiel can customize it with any kind of stone you like. (If you search through the archives, you'll find PSers have it in pink and blue sapphires, amethysts, tsavorites, all diamonds, and so on.)

Congratulations on your accomplishments. What a lovely way to celebrate!

I would probably get something like this :

I think it would work under gloves. I am not sure about 10 k gold. I love this style with sapphires, rubies, or emeralds. Some might see it more as an engagement ring, but I would love something like this for my right hand.

Wow! So many awesome ideas! VRBeauty got me thinking though that maybe I should look for something a little more bold. So I went through the Pre-loved forums and came across this http://diamondbistro.com/category/2...e-JSI1-bezel-18k-diamond-ring-size-5-525.html.

I love it but I'm afraid it's too much like an engagement ring. Thoughts?

I think it will be mistaken for an engagement ring, even if worn on your right hand. I know some people wouldn't care about that, but if you're asking the question, I'm guessing you're not among them. :wink2: ETA it would bother me too, especially at that point in my career - I would not want to be dealing with those assumptions or questions. I still have and wear my "I've arrived" ring, and it's decidedly not engagement ring-like!

Is custom an option? I think Sally/Heart of Water's prices are within your price range, and she makes some beautiful wearable designs. here are a few from her "sold" gallery of rings made for customers:

The folks over in the "colored stones" forum would probably have some ideas for you too - in fact I'll bet they own one or two of these rings!

here is a picture of my right hand ring....I also in the health care field

Wow, ILoveMySailor! That's really stunning!

What's your centre stone? And may we know some stats on the gorgeous setting?

This is my dream RHR (it's Loving Diamond's - please ignore the fluff!).

I just picked up a red diamond. It will be a while before I can get to the setting (too many other stones also waiting to be set!). But this is what I'm planning.

periwinklegirl,

Thanks a bunch! Its one of my favorite pieces, I will post a couple more pictures. The setting is platinum. The center stone is a blue diamond .37 VS2. The surrounding white diamonds are .34
