If you upgrade, do you trade-in the old ering, or do you buy a new one?

I am curious as to what those of you who upgraded did with the old ering?

I have traded in the whole thing.

But my diamond is not my original e-ring. That I have kept. It is a sapphire set in a wg split shank.

I traded it in - i got 100% credit by staying with the same jeweler. BUT my original diamond got lost in a military move, so there was less sentimental value. I probably would have kept it and not traded it in though.

I too kept my original e-ring and got a new ring with the upgrade.

same here. The original was too sentimental for me to give up. Luckily DH felt the same way.

I gave my first stone to my sister in law. she had set into a pendant.
I only did this because my first e-ring, came two years into my marriage so I wasn''t attached to it. And as I already had a pendant, I didn''t really need it.

I traded in my first e-ring at Zales! We had bought it in LA for 250.00 and Zales gave me 900.00 for it. I have never regretted it for a second. I never liked it, and I picked it cuz it was the cheapest in the store.
(Long story). My second set I still have and still love. When I upgraded my diamond I got a new setting, and then traded in that diamond and got the Last Great Final Upgrade.

sent the whole ring back, they took the metal for scrap and put the stone up for resale.

We went in to upgrade my ering to something bigger and better. We were going to trade mine in and do the double it up thing.
They put the temp fitting on the new bigger ring so that when we got home from vacation I could get it sized to the right size.

I choked. I couldnt imagine trading in my original ring in. It was something he picked out all on his own and it was exactly what I wanted when he got it. So what I did was researched and researched and researched some more till I came up with a guard/wrap that would fit my cathedral setting solitare.

And here is the finished look with the wedding band is my avitar

Bought entirely new stone and ring. The original is put away for daughter.

I kept my original G VVS1 diamond but had it recut by Brian Gavin into a firey F VVS1 (yeah, that man knows how to perform magic

)). It''s going to be reset into a Barbara pendant. I still have the original setting with me.

not at all. i have enough rotating rings as it is.....

I put the original center diamond (.15 ct) and 2 side accents in an open heart pendant. I had a spinel put in my original ering and wear it as a RHR.
