Looking for ideas and inspiration!

Can you show us a picture of your new stone? :naughty:

It would depend. If this stone is going to be a keeper for a long while, then I think I'd invest in a really cool setting. The stone has a very appealing pattern to it and I'd really want to showcase it. I cannot for the life of me remember the settings you once showed us but they were very different and unique. Do you remember the designer's name?

There was another ring here recently - I'll have to try to search - that had two thin diamond arms on the top and bottom of the diamond. This particular ring had sapphires as sidestones too but not your typical three stone ring. For something on the simple side, you could do a solitaire with a narrowed shank near the head - I always think those rings really make a stone pop.

If this stone will be upgraded relatively soon, I of course wouldn't want to put the money into an elaborate setting that wouldn't accomodate an upgrade. I did like the setting that your mother's stone is in and I liked the yellow gold on your skin. It gave the stone some extra umph without being crusty and over the top - kwim?

The stone in question.

Imagine it is YOURS! What would YOU do with it? I don't want to know what you think I should do with it ::) , I am interested in what YOU would do! It is more a fun game and hypothetical! I find others' plans and ideas inspiring.

HAHA! I have no idea what settings I posted when or where! Daydreaming is a full time occupation of late, there are too many ideas to remember them all.

The gold scallop halo on my mom's ring was really special on the hand. The ring itself is not so well made, but that detail was lovely. And it made the diamond looks bigger to boot.

It looks like a really pretty stone! Exciting! I have extremely large fingers so my plans for a 6mm stone would probably be along the lines of what I did for my 6.6 mm asscher -- a tank style, tapered setting with channel set side stones --- though for an OEC I might favor the french cut sides instead of the bags I have in mine. Also, might consider a double miligrain bezel surround. (Who is the designer that does those so well? They're past my active PS time ...)

OR -- a mini Surfgirl Special!

OR -- rose gold Haven-y deliciousness.

What I *wouldn't* do -- under any circumstances .... is halo it.

Deco would you avoid a halo because you just don't like the style in general?

Something about the scale of that size halo hits my eye funny -- like it's specifically for making the stone look larger than it is -- whereas that stone is beautiful on its own & helpers all the way around it could actually DISTRACT from the unique beauty of the stone's cut itself. (IMHO)

PLUS halos are very limiting when it comes to resale (having to fit exactly the right size stone in it) .... and I tend to think halos are on the way out, so I wouldn't be inclined to invest in one *at this point* -- so late in the trend cycle.

ETA: But I'm speaking here about a *diamond halo* .... I actually think the petal "halo" on your mom's ring was/is lovely. And unique.

Definitely an antique style setting for me. Something like Beverley K or similar.

MC2 makes some incredible settings for sure, but I would be afraid to hear their prices!

Well, you know I love a good halo, so I'd pick something like one of these for that gorgeous OEC. I think a vintage style with milgrain would be really nice:

Wow, check out this cool Vatche halo!

FYI, MC2 no longer makes settings for out-of-house stones. They will only sell rings with the whole enchilada- their stones, their settings, their rules. I called and tried to play nice (was thinking about changing my e-ring setting before DH put his foot down), but no dice. The gentleman who answered the phone said that they are simply swamped with their own orders and cannot handle doing settings. He was very nice and courteous on the phone. I really hope that I get to visit their Berkshire store one day.

Okay, this is too fun. :rodent: This has a cushion in it, but can accommodate a round stone, too (from ERD). Droooool!

For some reason, I really like this one.

I have seen and admired that vatche halo! I think the true antique styles are timeless and suit older cuts so well. That mount is $$ though!

I love that one too, you or someone else posted it on PS before? I have become a big fan of step cut sides like that paired with rounds, the contrast is just wonderful in person.

I know, some of the Vatche halos get pretty pricey unfortunately.

How about this bezel from JbEG...would look great with an OEC and it shows off the nice high crown.

I found an awesome temp solitaire mount, but in the longer term am looing for something different and more special.

I really like this one! The ring itself is substantial but the stone is still the star of the show. Very pretty!

aw deco, I'm sad halo's are on their way out ;(

I'd probably try to find an authentic antique setting to put in it. There are just some gorgeous, unique antiques out there. I did set my old OEC in an antique tiffany inspired setting which was gorgeous but do think the proportions would work better with a slightly larger stone. However, quest did a great job with my size stone and my finger size and making it work. Chrono now has the setting and changed it from prong set to bezel and it looks just as good.

I am glad you started this thread because I was going to ask this question!

But Skippy, yours would be "How would you set a TWO CARAT?" You have many more options, your stone can handle a lot more setting than mine!

This would be my choice. If you wanted it set in an engagement ring type setting. If you wanted a RHR, I would pick (and did pick) a different design.

I would give it marquise side "petals" like these:

In an earring. With a matching one in another earring.

Okay, will play the game! I do really like your stone. Both of them have been great. You really seem to have an eye for picking them!

I saw the most beautiful setting at a local jewelers in their commission case recently. The metal was slightly kite shaped with points at the top, bottom, and sides. The stone appeared to be prong set above that, not quite in it, so it slightly halo-ed the stone. The kite shape lead to a slight decoration and then a plain band. From the side there was filigree work but the diamond didn't seem to be set too high to accommodate it. I wish I'd asked if I could take a photo!

It was a bit like this Single Stone, but not as bulky on the sides.

I would do the Maevona flared semi bezel that I used as inspiration for my chrysoberyl semi bezel ring..Or I'd do a gold version of my ring b/c I dig it so much.

I tried a Maevona I loved, but wooo they are pricey!
