..what would you buy?

I'm selling my wedding dress which was a gift from my mom. She's sad that I am not holding on to it (there's no room in my house!) so we agreed I would use the money to buy a ring to keep forever so I still have a gift from her. I'm looking at making around 500 - 800 dollars and I'd love to know which rings you'd suggest/ snatch up if you were shopping within that budget. Right now I haven't even narrowed down what sort of stone I'd like.. I just know I want a gemstone. Post some pretties!

Depends on the desired size of the stone, color preferences, if its for every day wear and how much you want to set aside for a setting.

I love garnets for the money (although some, like tsavs and mints, have gotten pricey). Or maybe a ring with her birthstone?

I would definitely suggest watching LoupeTroop or DB as you can get some fantastic bargains on some great stones/settings/rings. The majority of my rings fall in your budgets - many from buying stones or rings preloved. OTL was selling a gorgeous purple garnet - sterling silver but plenty of room in the budget to replace the setting. I think she also had a mahenge spinel ring (another favorite and good for every day wear) too. I had to remind myself that I already had a couple of purple garnets and mahenges (and fingers too large for her settings, lol) or would've jumped on them.

You can get an idea of what other PSers have managed to put together on a budget and how they did it on this thread:

Not sure if its still available, but mochiko was selling the killer tanzanite ring shown on the first page of this thread...another ring I had to talk myself down from, lol.

Too rushed to post pictures but you can find the rings I mentioned and others here:

Or...maybe save the money and put it towards something real nice in the future. Sometimes it's best to wait it out until you know what you really want. Just a thought???

Depending what you're into, I'd buy this in a second (http://www.acstones.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=139&idproduct=5048) and then contact David Klass to work with me on a setting that fits my budget or keep my eyes open for a pre-loved one on LT.

How fun! :D Keep us posted.

That tourmaline is sooo pretty- and the price is great for such a beautiful and good size stone! Snap it up quick, OP, if you love it! Sparklies, you can really pick 'em!

Patty- I just clicked on all those rings- I think they are beautiful choices, as well!!!

I would not underestimate how far one can stretch the budget when looking at a Pre-loved item on LoupeTroop or DiamondBistro. I just purchased 2 gorgeous diamond and CS pieces for less than $600.

Surprise your mom with a gift from the sale so she has a memento from you as is sounds like she is pretty sentimental. Maybe a FFP ring or pendant that are set the same but with a different color pearl or metal. That way you both can wear them and think of each other. You can give it to her on Mother's Day.
