I'm looking for something a bit elongated--at least 1.08--and want to maximize sparkle, of course. Hoping I can get close to 8.5mm in length.

You we more likely to find nice elongated emerald cuts for example. Are you/your SO open to other shapes but cushion?

PS the pre-loved AVC is still my favorite and it has been cut by master cutter Yoram!

The AVC is beautiful but I don't know that I can handle a K. That makes me nervous.
