If only sphalerite wasn’t so soft.

Wow! That is amazing!

.

Spanish Sphalerite

The mine they mention Aliva, is precisely at the other end of Spain.

www could be one of two earrings methinks ... & I do not always insist on matching them.

Amazing!

That is really something!

Same with Cerussite, Phosgenite, Calcite, Anglesite and others and not to forget Phosphophyllite...

All you can scratch with your fingernail...

That is one gorgeous stone. Any plans for it?

Not mine, but even if it was, it would sit in a special non-glass gem container. I do have a spalerite though. It’s only about two carats and a trillion in a similar golden color. It’s a beauty. I wish I could set it. It even puts sphene to shame. The RI is so high that you cannot see a tilt window.

Sphalerite earrings by JAR. Wow! I’m sure the still photo doesn’t do these justice. I’m amazed that one of the finest jewelers in the world appreciates this gem.

Woah!

I’m home sick all day, so I was browsing the tv gem shows, even though I rarely ever buy anything. I do like Dallas Prince, but she’s too pricey for me for silver and cheap gems. Well, I saw a cloudy sphalerite ring on evine today. Absolutely no mention of the softness. All those poor people spending $500+ dollars for a ring that they’re going to ruin. They were saying it’s the new “big stone.” Look how unprotected the edges are and it’s sitting high up. It is almost sold out.

TL - be a risk taker and pull the trigger. You know I wear my sphenes! Just wear it every now and again x Oh should add - on the original post not the home shopping stuff!

Sphere is much harder than sphalerite, besides. I wouldn’t buy that cloudy muck on evine. I have my pretty and clean trillion (see above) if I ever had the nerve to set a sphalerite.

By the way, evine was selling lots of ugly Alexandria today. No discernible color change.

Wow, you would think they (Evine) would at least set these stones into a pendant I guess if they sell rings, when customers damage them they go back and buy more junk from there....
