What, if any, precautions should consumers take if they decide to buy from a vendor who may be closing his doors?

Hehehe, kind of like what should ex Enron Employees do?

Well, the problem with corps is they have all of the benifits of individuals with out the liabilties. And once they are gone...who is responsible? its a dificult question.

Find a good jewler who is an individual, and stick too them for life. Support them, recomend them. Keep them alive and in business, unfortunatly good goldsmiths are getting harder to find. Its kind of like finding a good helicopter piolet. Alot of the guys from Vietnam are retireing now, same with goldsmiths, not all, but most of the ones you find are either in there 50's or 60's...or in there early to mid 20's if you can find them.

The way things are going its like finding a blacksmith, or a hat maker, or a shoe cobbeler, or a stone mason...or for that matter, anyone know of any real barbers that are not in there 60's or 70's? I mean there are stylists now but what happend to true barbers?
