Lol!

Yes I saw the pics of the ring on mrssalvo's fingers and the ring looks good on her fingers, but her fingers are so nice any ring will look nice on it!

I think it's just the internet magnified pics that looks too swoopy to me. That's one thing I always have to remind myself about - everything is so magnified in pictures it is easy to focus on little things.

I can't wait till you get your ring done! I know how impt it is to 'click' with your jeweller, and can understand why isaku didn't take the plunge with Quest, so to say.

xoxo

ETA: I burst out laughing when I saw mara's question about 'what size are your paws' - my mind is just going everywhere today! I got an image of a big brown bear
41.gif

The rings look fabulous on her fingers... and her fingers remind me of my mothers which are longer and more elegant than mine (although my mother's ring size is a 1/2 size larger) Mine are... well, my fingers are on the short side... here... I've attached a pic.

Tyhe ring is 4.75 mm at the thickest part of the shank and the asscher is 5.87 by 5.86.

I don't know Mara... what are my paws like...lol? My hands look as hairy as a bears in these pics.. YIKES must remember to bleach them soon.

As for 'click'... it's very important for me, for this project... and I can understand her reservations about it too.

gypsy, I think you have very nice paws. Any chance you can go and try on a DK ring or something similar? maybe even find a place that carries both style''s of the DK rings so you could really idea of which you''d prefer on your hand. Most jewelers stock your size which makes it so much easier to see which looks better. If you wanting bling though, the halo really would make a much bigger impact. those split crowns are very dainty and subtle.

well miss gypsy...you do have very lovely hands, but i don''t think they are smallish or dainty.
9.gif
don''t worry, neither are mine. i think people like mrs salvo with her size 3 fingers and kaleigh with her child hands are more made for ''dainty'' rings with smaller stones. that''s just my own visual thang. that''s only caveat i would say about the 2nd setting and you really should get into a store and try something like it on first...i may be totally off and it could be really lovely! but i wouldn''t go custom unless you really knew for SURE that you were going to like the look on the paw! super important.

U have nice paws!

LOL I''ve cracked up everyone in my office, going ''show us your paws!''.

My paws are horribly swollen at the moment

Yes you do Gypsy!!! Lovely hands indeed.

Wish I had hands that look like a grownups. Remember when you were little and you''d put your hand up to your friends, mine were always the smallest. I wish I had long fingers, but I don''t. I was a size 4 when I got married and am now a size 4 1/2 but wear a size 5 for swelling. Which brings me to Jade, My hands got swollen when I was pregnant too. I bought a cheapie wedding band to wear until after I gave birth.

I''ve been thinking about trying it on. The thing about the split crown is... how do I explain this... the setting-- that it is dainty and subtle is much more ME than the baguette halo is. My favorite jewelry pieces are very dainty and inticate. IF I didn''t have *this* asscher I wouldn''t get a halo. Um let me rephrase that... if I had a diamond other than this particular asscher, I wouldn''t be considering a halo. I love halos for colored stones but really don''t care for them FOR MYSELF for white diamonds. If I had a square cushion I''d get the Daniel K. If I had an octagonal stone other than an asscher... the Daniel K... and if I had a nice fat oval... I''d get a 1.7 mm pave shank and four prongs. I don''t need a big diamond. BUT...

It''s the asscher that''s the problem. First of all I prefer octagonal asschers. Second of all I don''t know if I like asschers with pave. And third of all MY asscher is square. Finally, I really only seem to like bigger asschers-- while I love 1 carat cushions and ovals just fine. The reason I designed (with MUCH HELP) the baguette halo is because I... not that I don''t love my asscher... but well, I want it to look it''s best. And I think it would look it''s best disguised in a baguette halo that makes it look bigger and octagonal. But the setting itself isn''t ME.

I don''t know if this makes any sense.

My favorite all time asscher setting is THIS cartier one. And the setting is dainty and understated (um... not the stone..lol). So I thought that I would set mine to mimic this one... with the hopes that... even though the setting isn''t me... I''ll finally be able to come to terms with my asscher.

Maybe TMI (I'm cursed with TMI disease) Up until 6 years ago I was um... a size four-six in clothes at 5ft 7". And when I was... all of me was little. I have tiny bone structure. So when I gained weight I gain it EVERYWHERE. Five years ago this ring would have been huge for me. Four years ago it wasn't because of some medication I was on that caused me to jump up to size 12 (still on the meds.. still a 12. Can't ever get off of them, saving new and improved drugs so I am a 12 for the forseeable future).

Up until then though... like you Kaleigh I had doll hands my ring size was a four or a 4.25 in thick bands. I still can't wear any of my rings from before. I've never gotten them sized up because I keep hoping that somehow I'll lose the weight. ANYWAY... when I was thinner my fingers looked fine even though they are short.

Now I wear my nails long to disguise the stubby digits. It works too. My hands just look bigger overall. Instead of fat and stubby. But Mara you are definitely right. I do not have tiny hands any longer. Unfortunately... I still like tiny hand jewelry.

Anyone know what the Daniel K website is? So I can find a dealer and go try the sucker on to get it out of my system?

ETA: Mrssalvo has size THREE, THREE fingers????
23.gif

Three? Yeah. Okay. Three. Don't need to try the split crown on. Would look silly on my paws. THANK YOU MARA!

LOL at your office. Swollen hands aren''t happy hands. But just think of how happy the hands will be holding baby.

oh gypsy. i think i remember you saying you have to keep your stone. I do think you might seriously look into some other dainty like settings though rather than the halo since you don''t like them
2.gif
. I love how halo''s look but they do not look good on my hand IMO so I get where your coming from. there has got to be a setting out there that can be all that you want it to be w/out settling for something you don''t *really, really* want.

as to not hijack butterfly's thread further, I'll thank you over here
1.gif
. I do really LOVE the Dk but there are so many factors involved including doubts over the overpriced cushion
2.gif
. This way, I get a new ring a lot sooner and we can take our kids to disney world later this year
36.gif
. Bill Pearlman is on the hunt for my stone. As soon as I get that squared away, i'll start a thread asking for advice on settings for the 3rd and final time

I think the overpriced cushion is a concern for any true PSer.... And DISNEY!! Oh. *I* want to go to Disney... so I can totally see the desire to take the kids.... I want one of those BIG rainbow lolipops. And mouse ears. LOL.

Bill will find you a fab stone no doubt. What shape are you getting? As for settings... can''t wait!

I''m going to stick with a round. I just can''t give up the bigger size for weight. Plus, hubby loves a classic round and I had one for 5 years so I know I won''t get tired of it somewhere down the line. poor, poor bill. i''ve been emailing every other day for info on settings. he truly is a saint, he''ll probably be as happy as me when this whole process is over

Might post to see what other's suggest in terms of settings. I love the baguette halo... it's just... when I think of the cost of it... and then think that I'm not even sure how much I'll love it. I get freaked. And it's not like there is anything similar to it I can do see... Except maybe that one. The one with the baguettes at the corners and the rounds on the sides of the halo. Wonder if anyone carries that one? Lockes? Is tht ho makes it? Will have to go and check. I've only seen one baguette halo.. and wasn't able to try it on.

I've been looking for settings for too long though. Got this e-ring August 2002 and started looking for settings 6 months before. LOL. You know how you are tired of waiting-- blingless? I'm tired of waiting for a setting.

But as we've decided to fund wedding deposits with my setting money... I guess it doesn't hurt to look around a bit more. (LOL... especially if I can talk FI out of the receptions).

ETA: Round! COOL. You know I'm going to be looking at round settings now right LOL?

well, focus on your wedding and then you can worry about a new setting. It surely doesn''t hurt to keep looking until your actually ready to buy. if you do love the bag. halo though I think it would be stunning and I know Quest will do a fab. job..

The wedding. *sigh* See the setting is ALL ME. My decision, my taste. I like that.

The freaking wedding planning would go much better if my Df just said, "whatever you want honey." But, blast him! He keeps thinking that he gets SAY! And even worse. He has opinions! And IDEAS! Frankly, it''s driving me batty...hehehehe.

Girl, I know what you mean! That''s probably why I''m zoning out in "wedding band selection land" when I should be a) working b) looking for other work c) wedding planning d) figuring out desperately needed home repairs! AIIGHH.

On your halo queary/quandry -- pretty familiar territory for me as I feel like I''ve had most of your thoughts almost exactly. I started out wanting a big ol'' asscher - then realized how much those 2.26 whoppers cost & downscaled the dream accordingly! Then I wanted a baquette halo for EXACTLY the same reason you do -- asscher push-up bra on meaty paws (mine 3x more meatier than yours - no worries!) Saw the Leon version (with sapphire center & edge bags too) ... thought about this for some time. Drew it on my finger. Pondered in the hammock for hours. IMAGINED it with an asscher center & it SEEMED perfect.

But when I actually tried halos on (pave ones were the only ones I could find()-- I didn''t like it for day to day wear. Too much. Too big. Too flashy. Not on other people, but on me it just felt wrong. I also saw the DBOF "Daniel K" bag halo online and thought it was too masculine looking. I didn''t like the proportions. Looked sloppy. Then I met & fell in love with my own setting (pre-fix Ol Stabby).

After the Sweetie agreed & our platinum version was in the works -- I fell in love with the Daniel K split crown. Priced it out -- not an option ANYWAY. So ... I put it out of my mind ... realizing that the lines on my Sparkly are similar and to get that Daniel K setting, the stone would have literally been a CHIP! Giant eagle talons on a near-microscopic pave-type stone.

Sooooooo. What if you left your Sparkly as is & got a colored stone halo --OR-- a "Pokey special". If I''d seen THAT one early on, things could have turned out quite differently.

lol gypsy...just trying to help.
31.gif
and i REALLY wanna see that #1 made by quest...hehee..!!!

yeah size three, fingers...just wrong. ITS WRONG do you hear me all you small fingered girls?!?!?! *breaks out sobbing*

ok i feel better now.

Deco.. .lmao. "The Pokey Special" that names gonna stick too. Like halo has. PPsers are going to be calling up jewelers for custom qoutes asking for it. "Hi, I have a insert diamond shape here and I''m wondering if you could tell me how much it would cost of have it set in The Pokey Special?"

I think that the next time I''m in NYC I''m going to have to go to a few places and look at settings... there is an Adwar version of Pokey''s Special too. Which has possibilities. And I''ve tried on one like it-- but for a 1.5 carat round so it was hard to tell how it would look on my hand... and with my asscher.

Mara-- you definitely helped. A lot frankly. Because posting about all that TMI made me realize that I haven''t conciously aknowledged my weight gain/ring size thing and that all the rings I have that FIT are well... larger. I haven''t acknowledged it because I haven''t bought myself any rings in all this time. But all the ones I have that I''ve recieved as gifts like the one on my RH now are thicker this one is a horseshoe spilt shank with a something (don''t recall what) set in the middle... and my favorite RHR is a big (11mm x 8mm oval) bright clean persian blue turquoise in a pave halo in 18K WG. So unconciously I''ve gravitated toward larger rings because they look good on me... but for some reason I didn''t equate that with a setting for my e-ring. I was still clinging to my dainty days. So, you may yet see the #1... but I think I''m going to go to NYC to see if I can find anything similar to try on before I commit the $$ to the project.

SIZE THREE!!!

Deco, you crack me up the pokey special. Made my night.

Gypsy, whatever you end up with I know it will be gorgeous and totally amazing. You have a very good eye and know what''s right for you. You''re way ahead of the game in that respect. I can''t wait to see what you end up with.

Pokey special. Pokey special. Pokey special.

It's gonna be the next big craze in settings. And it's gonna drive PS vendors batty. LOL.

There is nothing more classy to me for an asscher than that Cartier ring. Unfortunately, that is quite a large rock set in it!

I wish we could go setting shopping together..you, mrssalvo, and me, since we all have some similar taste in settings and are all terribly indecisive on our own!
