I would like to spend 4-5k on a e-ring. And I am trying to optimize the solution.

I have narrowed down my preferences to princess, radiant, round.
I have looked at all three stones and have yet to make a preference.
My girl likes all three cuts more or less equally.

Here are some questions for the forum:

1. What type of cut and setting will work best for an active person in the medical field?
I need that stone to stay in place.

The jewelers were pushing radiant cuts, but I am not sure that was in my best interest or their
margins. They told me that the corners of princess have a great chance of cracking when set
(not sure how true that is)?

2. I am trying to come up with a list of online places that I can best stone/service and care for the buck.
So far I came up with JamesAllen and Whiteflash. I like that I can see a picture of the stone, where with others
(BlueNile) all I have is the certificate. Please let me know how you guys feel about my vendor preference or maybe a place that I should not overlook.

personally, of those three shapes I prefer the round--and it would look lovely in a delicate fluid bezel setting (similar to the Tiffany bezet) which woiuld make it sturdy and no prongs or sharp edges to cut through gloves or scratch patients...
 
Ditto on round bezel. But really, it depends on what kind of setting and cut she wants. Then just take it off and put in locker when she change for work/put on gloves.

I prefer to buy from vendors that can offer Idealscope/ASET images too.

Other that WF and JA, there are

(not sure how true that is)? Some Princess are prone to chipping on the corners but plenty are set without problems so if that is what you want then sticl to that shape. Watch out for girdles that are very thin/ extremely thin to reduce the chances of chipping.

I''d go with a bezel too if she is very active with her hands. I had a prong setting and work in a lab - went to a bezel setting and am very very happy with it now. No more snags, no more ripped gloves.

Shape is such a personal thing, but rounds present larger than square cuts - they look larger carat per carat, does that make sense?

For me personally, I would skip the radiant. They are beautiful but the sparkle is not the same as a round and they face up much smalller. The bezel is a great idea, but you can also find many settings with
sidestone that sit low on the hand as well.

Radiants will probably be cheaper than the round, but I would go for the round. I love princess too, I would go with a vendor who has ideal cut princess stones. To me the difference is amazing.
Check out whiteflash, or Brian Gavin diamonds. They can probably send you a photo of the non ideal and the ideal side by side. The same might be true for Good old Gold.

Ooooh I love that Erica Grace ring even though I am not usually a big bezel fan. That is a great ring for the price. I work in the medical field as a RN. I had a RB in a classic tiffany style setting for 13 years and never had a problem with it. I never took it off for work. I usually had the prongs checked maybe only once a year (should have more) and I had it insured of course.

In another post I''m chronicling my purchase through Eternity Diamonds since they''re pretty new to price scope and there don''t seem to be many reviews here. So far they''ve been great, though they don''t have actual pictures of stones online. However they''ve been really helpful making me a custom setting, so you could talk to them about a safe ring for active hands.

If she didn''t love the design, you''d still have a bunch of lovely stones on hand and some $ left over to create something new with!
 
I would get a round diamond from BGD or Whiteflash and the semi-bezel setting (both vendors have it). it''s modern, low-set and glove-safe ;)

Do you guys thing those pave set guys will stay in place or is this one too busy looking?
