Hi All

I am almost settled on a diamond for my proposal and now i am looking for some ideas for a setting.

Does anyone know of any websites to get some solitaire setting ideas ???

I look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers.

fyi- I just recently remounted my diamond into a Stuller Solstice 4 prong setting.
Any local jeweler can order Stullers for you.
Just ask to look at the Stuller catalog.

I wish I had know that sooner! I really like my new solitaire. It ran just over $300 in 18k yellow gold with a platinum head.

good luck!

first, ascertain whether she likes white metal or yellow metal.

White Gold most definately ...

I am going to buy a diamond off the internet. Is it best to recieve the diamond and then go locally to have it set ?

Also, i have not bought a diamond off the internet before ... any stories (good or bad) ?

Cheers.

if you are buying online, it would be best to have the vendor you buy the diamond from set the stone. that way they are responsible for it. of course, that isn''t always the way it works out but it is the best situation.

Is it best to have the stone appraised before the stone is set ?

If i order online then i can''t have the stone appraised ... is this OK ?

Also, are onlines stores usually good at doing the setting ?

if you feel you need an appraisal, it will be much more accurate if the stone is loose.
you can order online and have the diamond sent directly to the appraiser and then back to have the stone set, if you so choose.
i only have setting experience through whiteflash and they are very good.

Do you have a way to check the reputation of the vendor you are using? Is it one that advertises on this site by chance? On an open forum, you get lots of feedback, and that has helped me personally decide which ones I'd feel most comfortable working with. If you go up to resources on the top right, click on vendors and you can see the list. See if yours is on there. If so, you can post and ask for feedback and/or do a search on that vendor on this site. Of course, there may be feedback here on other vendors who do not advertise here as well. There is a price checking tool at the top as well if you want to compare prices. But be sure you know the quality of cut is that you're getting as that will have a great deal to do with how beautiful the stone is. I'd just be sure they have a reputation for doing nice settings before I went forward.

I purchased my stone off the net and had it shipped to me ( I am Canadian).

I had the stone set here in Ontario after I received it. It is better to have the stone appraised when loose but if it has a GIA/AGS/HRD cert than it will be fine to do it after setting.

Good luck and happy shopping.

I also want to get the diamond over the internet and have it set here in Ontario (near Toronto).

Where did you have it set ? Would you recommend them ?

Also, where did you get the diamond ? Would you recommend the site ?

I am glad to hear you are happy with your ring, that makes me a bit less nervous.
