Hi everyone!
I usually just look around and see everyones beautiful rings and read their advice, but I finally need some advice of my own!

My boyfriend is going to be proposing in about a months time.

We began looking at rings together a little we ago, and at the time I was absolutely sold on the tiffany novo. (Although not from tiffany itself).

Since then I realized that I really love the brilliance and shape of a round cut stone.
My question:
I have pretty normal size hands for a girl, and while I am not overweight my fingers would have you think otherwise. I wear about a size 7, which i know is not large, its just larger than the average womans ring finger, and the novo setting does not quite suit me--it pinched my sides too much and made my fingers look fat (aka like squished sausages--I tried something similar on in my size and it still gave the same appearance). I was wondering if anyone has any ideas of ring settings that might slenderize and/or not pinch the sides of my fingers..

The center stone will hopefully be about 2 carats. I previously claimed to abhorred begets and only liked the pave/micropave styles, but since trying them on I have begun to think otherwise since they tend to only emphasize my chubby fingers.

Have you tried a slightly bigger setting on? it almost sounds like that might be what you need. I'm just thinking the correct size in almost any style shouldn't pinch your finger, or give that rather "sausagey" look.

Thats what i thought! But even when it fit my finger I think that maybe I just have extra flabby sides that it would still look AS IF it were pinching, even if it was loose (lucky me)!

Well the very very first was the tiffany novo, so however wide, or rather, however narrow it is. I was actually posting for some ideas on how wide you think I should go...

Have you tried a euro shank where the inside of the ring is shaped a little differently as well? Maybe your fingers won''t squish as much with a more ergonomically shaped ring...

Well, I honestly don''t know!

I think I''d go back to the jewelers and just try everything on...even things you "think" you wouldn''t like. Rings do magical things sometimes once they''re on a finger, kinda like trying wedding dresses on.

LoveinBloom does make a very good point. Our fingers aren''t naturally round like the inside of a ring, and the squarer shaped inside of a Euro shank might just fit you better and allow you to get a smaller size than you would wear. You put them on on the diagonal then turn them if you know what I mean.

I second the idea of just trying LOTS on. It''s great fun too! Good luck!

Maybe a half or quarter size up with sizing beads or a horseshoe would help...?

Also, since you liked the Novo, take a peek at Good Old Gold's Square H&A stones. I don't know how much they cost vs. the budget, but they're pretty! Here's a nice looking one in the 2ct range.

I bet you need to go up another 1/4 to 1/2 size at least. When they let you try on the ring sizer at B&Ms, they always try and squish you into a smaller size. Trying on size 7s may give you that feeling, but if they have anything in stock in a 7 1/4 or 7 1/2, it might work. The suggestion about trying different styles is absolutely what you need to do. I love the look of split shank, halos, and wider tiffany type settings. But on my hands, they just don''t work.

Have you considered some of the settings like Leon Mege makes? I bet they would look lovely on you.

It''s also possible that you are retaining water, and your hands are swelling. So anything will come out looking like that. Do you have any swelling in your lower legs and/or feet? I take a itty bitty dose of a water pill, and that keeps my swelling down, and my blood pressure as well. AND, if I ever forget, I get that fat hand look you are describing.

Nixi, don''t despair - the right ring is out there for you! Part of the feeling may be from the fact that you''ve not been wearing a ring, and just the ring itself looks foreign. I had been wearing a wide wedding band, changed to a wide eternity band, and then, after 11 years, went to a really thin ering band. Freaked me out for a bit. It took a lot of getting used to such a petite band. Now, I think it is awesome!

my fiance is in the same boat as yourself. When we went looking around at e-rings, some of the narrower bands had the same pinching effect. Also, an oval center stone will have an elongating effect on your finger. I got a 1.02 carat H VS2 oval with a pave setting w/ halo. Here is the link http://www.adiamor.com/R-1285-R2813-1.htm . Not the best people to work with but not bad, either. Good prices, good diamonds, etc... BTW the ring is absolutely gorgeous. Any way, back to the setting, it has a wide band that she says is much better than the more narrow ones she has tried. If you do decide on oval, take your time because it is a slow process. Look out for bow-ties and visually compare any stone you consider with at least 2-3 other similar stones. Good luck, and I hope this helps...
