Hi Staci

Maybe a thin band of around 2mm with 6 prongs might help visual size.

Here''s a link to my SMTR thread. .76 carat in a simple setting on a size 6.75 finger. The stones look larger on smaller fingers - fyi

I personally am in love with making the one diamond the center of attention. I''ve had rings with side stones but didn''t like them as much as I felt that the center stone gets lost in them.

ETA: Vatche royal crown is about 2 to 2.5mm wide.

very nice ring exoticsabella :)
6 prongs i think makes ur ring more bigger also.
2nd pic, i think the diamond looks smaller bec of the the wide prongs
my gf ring size is 5.5

my definition of sidestone- additional 6 lil stone , my .77 carat in the middle. correct me if im wrong am not familiar with the terms. :D

When I hear "sidestones" I think of the 3-stone rings which have two slightly smaller stones on either side of the center diamond, such as a 0.25-0.75-0.25 arrangement. I may be off on the typical proportions here as my GF didn''t like this style of ring so I didn''t spend much time looking into them. Something like this:

When you mention 6 small stones in addition to the center diamond I''m guessing you''re thinking of a ring with 3 melee size diamonds (i.e. 1 to 3 points or so) set into the band on either side of the diamond. They could be channel, pave, or common-prong set. With only 6 melee stones they''d probably be one of the larger melee sizes. Something like this:

thank you for correcting emnivek.
this is the one im referring to :) a diamonds set into the band, 3 on both sides of my .77 carat.
so is it called melee stones ring? :D

staci,
I''m happy to help, though I am by no means an expert and am just passing along some of what I picked up over the last couple of months while searching for an e-ring myself.

Melee, I believe, just refers to the size of the diamonds. I think "solitaire setting with a diamond band" would be a good starting point for describing what you are looking for. Then you need to figure out what size diamonds you want, how many to get, and how you''d like to have them set into the band

size of diamond, im not sure. but im thinking any size that will fit on a 2mm band.
how many? 6. three on both sides :)

thanks so much tyty333.
now im really considering a solitaire settings with a diamond band :)
now im looking for a nice ring , specially on the prong and setting design of the diamond.

btw, is the solitaire ring of cartier is 2mm?

The JA common prong tyty linked to was near the top of my list for a setting since my GF had stated that she wanted a setting with diamonds on the band, but after seeing some settings in person she decided she would prefer a diamond wedding band but a plain solitaire ering. I ended up going with a setting which tapers to a point (from 2.5mm at the bottom of the band down to 1.35mm) as the cathedral approached the basket to help make the 0.8 stone pop a bit more. [shameless plug] The ring just arrived today. You can see it here.[/shameless plug]

They also make a pave version of the setting, though it does have more than 6 diamonds: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/-Sleek-Line-Pave--Diamond-Engagement-Ring_1184.htm

And here is one which uses the same head, minus the cathedral, and has 8 diamonds on the band: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--Diamond-Engagement-Ring-with-Shared-Prong_1058.htm This one is 2.4mm wide

Finding a stock setting with 6 stones and a 2mm width might be a bit of a challenge since reducing the number of diamonds on the band requires making them larger in order to cover the same amount of space.

Here are a couple from James Allen which are under 3mm:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/basket-set-Engagement-Ring.html has 4 stones and what appears to be a relatively constant width band.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-1908.asp has 6 stones and a band which tapers to a point where it meets the diamonds.

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/settings-with-sidestones/ring/item_58-1089.asp has 8 stones channel set in a cathedral which tapers slightly from 3.1 to 2.8.

This one has 6, but is a bit wider:

how about if i go classic solitaire?
any suggestion that will be good on my .77 carat diamond
TIA

How about a 4 prongs with diamond halo? Like this LOGR

I have a 72 pointers on my size 4 finger. looks ok in size, but am also contemplating to set into a halo setting to appear larger:)

thanks for the reply, but i prefer the plain solitaire. classic look

Simple, six prong Tiffany solitaire, like this one. Classic, and hey, inexpensive! My friend has a gorgeous 0.8 solitaire with this setting and a teeny thin diamond wedding band. It totally makes the diamond pop, I thought it was at least a carat.

Petite SunBurst

This is one of my favorite solitaire settings by Mark Morrell.

These were my final four choices for a 0.8 stone:

Vatche Caroline

I narrowed it down to the Legato and the Caroline and went with the Legato due to a combination of price and more good quality ''real life'' pictures on PS.

thanks, really like this one. im considering this on my choices
