Could you expound on a few things???

First of all....What is branded?

How do radiants reflect light--do they all reflect differently?

How should I get it set/What setting should I use if I''m getting a wrap later (Tiffany, etc)?

What symmetry is "ideal"?

Where "should" the inclusions be?

Thanks for all your advice so far!!!

Hey Becky,

First, a branded diamond is one where a company develops a specific cut (maybe similar to others but a slight difference) and patents it, therefore giving the cut a name and charging a premium for that cut. Here is an example of the Hearts on Fire Dream radiant style cut. Here is another Radiant brand, actually this one is the oringinal Radiant cut company. There is some interesting specs and info on the last website.

As for how a radiant reflects light, there is a lot of variation with this cut because there are no standards across the board. I viewed many radiants in person during my search and I saw everything from what I would call a cut corner princess to an emerald with a few extra facets. Many very pretty cut radiants have the appearance of cracked ice. It is very different from a RB.

I have a question for you on the setting, what do you mean by wrap?

For the symmetry, if you can find an excellent, that is great, but they are hard to find, so very good is also acceptable in my opinion.

Inclusions should be eye clean, that is they should not be visible with the naked eye. Clear inclusions are better than black carbon, but there are always exceptions. Inclusions to watch out for would be feathers or any type that break the surface of the stone, especially near the girdle. Speaking of the girdle, thin to med or med are very good, extremely thin can be a problem as they can chip and extremely thick means it carries too much weight in that spot.

I am not an expert and the info I gave is based on my own research and from others on this forum. I just love

diamonds and radiant cuts in particular! I hope this is helpful, and you will also want to read about fancy cuts on the PS home page.

Thanks so much for all your help!!!! My FI is kinda going crazy trying to keep this within his price range.....It's even harder for me b/c I don't want to sacrifice quality, but he was the one suggesting the 1ct......I hope I can at least find one close to 1ct.....Anyway, to answer your question: The wrap I am going to get (someday) sits flush with my ering, and has a trillion on either side (it makes a three stone ring). I will get them soldiered together, too. It would essentially be a radiant with a trillion on either side.....Hope that helps!!!

Hi Becky,

Now I know what you are talking about!

That sounds very pretty. I think I would go with a setting that really pleases me now, and worry about adding the wrap when the time comes!

As for how high to have it set, I think that is a matter of preference mostly. Keeping in mind that if you are hard on your rings or work with your hands a lot, you will want to protect the stone by not setting it too high!

Hope this helps, happy searching!

Thanks for all your input!!! I think I have found the ideal specs to keep it around Ben's price range....(They'll be posted below)....Do you know anything about Diamond.com???? I have built my ring there for around $3800....close enough b/c Ben says the highest he wants to push is $3700, and I'm offering to pay for the setting & he pay for the diamond b/c this is very important to me (I may get flamed for that!!!)...I researched a lot about what I wanted & what was important to me. I have to wait for the site to reload b/c of maintenance......See back in a few!

Tell me what you think??? Do any of these sound pretty good?

Thanks!

Hey Becky,

First let me say I think that you taking care of the setting is great and you shouldn't be flamed for that!

Are you looking for a rectangular radiant? In your other post you mention that the princess cut didn't work for you because of shape? Princess cuts are mostly square (not always though!). Square radiants are very pretty. You may want to check out this site to see what dimensions appeal to you.

I have browsed the Diamond.com site, but have no experience with them personally. You may want to do a search on PS to see if you can find any feedback on them.

As Researcher posted on your other thread, don't rule out eye clean SI1s! You may be able to save some money there and even find a bit larger stone.
