I took a gamble

As some of you may remember, there was a little incident last October involving me leaving out a .51ct FCD and the better half doing some cleaning and trash pick up day. Long story short, that lead me to find a replacement stone. So I found two diamonds listed as .51cts. One a pear and one a radiant. I've posted the pear on here before because it was EXACTLY what I was looking for, and was pleasantly surprised with its GIA report.

Now onto my gamble. I had never used this vendor before and honestly, the colored gemstone listings looked fishy, but their diamond listings looked/felt more true to life. I took a huge gamble on their one stone. Listed as a .51ct Sunny Yellow SI3. Yeah there's quite a few flags thrown on that description alone, but I had a feeling, and loved the cut!

Vendor picture:

I was very happy when I received the stone. A few pictures so you can judge it yourself.

Last week I sent it to GIA to see what exactly I had been so in love with. At first I was hoping for something W-Z in color. But when GIA sent me a cost estimation, they estimated it for Fancy Colored report. My heart nearly exploded, I knew then my gamble paid off. Then the final report came in, .52ct Natural Fancy Yellow! I was over the moon! It may be rude to say how much I paid for the stone itself, but I'm going to anyways! It was only $150 USD. Now you can guess why I'm so happy :D

So expect many more pictures when this little devil arrives! UGH I love this stone. And I'm gonna pop it right into a tension setting as soon as I free up some funds!

Nice score!!! I love a good deal. Glad your gamble paid off! :appl: :appl:

It looks gorgeous! And what a fab price too.

btw, is sending stuff as an individual to GIA as complex as their website seems to make it out to be?

WOO HOO :appl: :appl: Nice looking stone and with what you paid, I'd call it a steal :naughty:

Not at all! Fill out the paper work (it's like three forms), write a little letter explaining what you done, how you want it shipped back, how you'll be paying and your phone number so they can call. Then send it registered to whatever lab you want. They'll send you emails or call you if they need anything else. After your first time, sending other stones in just include your client number and it becomes easier.

NKOTB and Colorluvr :D Thanks I'm glad my gamble paid off too :D

I guess bargains still do exist from time to time. I suspect the vendor had no clue what he had. Congratulations, very nice find!!!

Wow I'm Fancy Green with envy. :Up_to_something:

You are so much braver than I and this is a great example of how it can pay off big time.
I was always under the impression that sellers of such stones always know what they have.

Could you tell if this a private party or a professional vendor or something in between?

Also I love the color and the cut!!!

More than a steal, Davi, that puppy was a gift! Wow, fabulous job. I gawped when I read what you paid. It will provide you with many happy times.

What luck! It's a nicely cut stone too.

Wow, that seriously has to be one of the best PS finds!! Congrats!

Wow congrats, I can see why you are over the moon. Did you pay more for the report then the stone???

I think I know who it is from the photos and have bought from them before - they are very reasonably priced and a number of my great finds have come from them!!!

Absolutely delighted for you Davi - so what are you're plans for your new lovely?

It was only $150 USD.

WOW!

I keep trying to say something more but my brain keeps shorting out when I think about the price.

Oh Davi, I am thrilled for you! Not only do you get a stone that you love, but your gem knowledge paid off with a real find. Congratulations :appl: :appl:

Umm, would you like to share or need it remain top secret? :naughty:

Yes, you took a gamble, but for the price, I would have jumped all over it too.

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. :wavey:

:appl:

Most excellent dude!

Nice!

Excellent Davi- you played your hunch just right.

What a stroke of genius luck! Congratulations on such a great gamble. That's a beautiful stone and set in a tension setting would be amazing. Yellow gold? WG? Platinum? what are your plans?
Good stuff!!!

Wow!! What an amazing find! I can't wait to see the setting. :appl:

One more thing to add - for a photoshopped picture, its interesting to note that the colors of the stone in the vendors photo match the colors in the one you took Davi where the stone is in the holder. Typically one sees in photoshopped photos that they have made the contrast so extreme that it makes the stone look highly saturated with no brown modifiers. At least this one seems to have been accurate for color...

Minous - trying to contact you at the "other" site - do you use a different name over there?????

Davi - apologies for the mini threadjack x

Geesh, I think its Mbijoux. I don't have the best memory but I believe that's what it is...

Received the report today :D I'm attaching the plot to show all the neat stuff inside of it :D I1 stones are fun :naughty: It is seriously hard to find the crystals at normal viewing distance. They're at such an angle that it doesn't reallllllllllly effect the visuals. I LOVE THE CUTTING. And this stone is DEEP, 84.5% depth.

Thank you all for the lovely comments. I am soooo in love with this stone. I'm planning on a titanium tension setting by Boone Rings in the next few months.

LD and Minous: I got this from the ebay vendor gemprecious. They seem to have changed up their store a bit as this was an auction and now all their stuff is BIN.

I realy like your new diamond Davi. It is one of those awesome, rareties that we hope for and Im glad you snagged it.
Is it safe to tension set it? I was under the impression that only super clean diamonds could be tension set. Maybe your has no feathers, just points and crystals that changes things?

You have quite an ESP... this is not the first time that you score a lovely colored diamond ... Congratulations!

I gotta say Davi, that you took to colored diamonds like a fish to water. The thing that most impresses me is how, from that photo, you just knew it was a beautiful stone. I love it, especially the cutting. You really do seem to have a major talent for colored diamonds.

Davi - thank you, you've saved me a job! I was talking to TL offline and said I thought it was from them! I was going to tell Minous offline in case you didn't want to share!

I have bought quite a lot from him but he's hiked his prices incredibly in the past 6 months. Not sure why!
